Article by Ernst Wilhelm
To use or to not use the outer planets is a common question of the Vedic Astrology Student. The three planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, not being mentioned in the classical astrology books makes one wonder if they should be included or not, and if so, where do they fit into the greater body of knowledge that is Vedic Astrology.
1.To Use or not Use the Outer Planets
Recently a hard core traditionalist Vedic Astrologer had to tell me that the outer planets have no effect because they are not visible. Interesting concept. Vedic Astrology, however, has several invisible secondary Grahas known as Upagrahas such as Dhoomadi. They are not visible and they have an effect, so the ancient masters of astrologer certainly did not object to the effects of things not visible to the naked eye. But then why didn’t they include the outer planets in their texts. If these seers could discern the mysteries of the heavens, through direct communication with the Gods as it is told, then would not they have had the opportunity to learn about the three of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto? For the simple reason that these texts, all of which have passed through the Kali Yuga, are concerned with material and physical matters, since it is these things that provide the theme that is the Kali Yuga. These matters are best discerned through the physically visible planets.
In the Kali Yuga the consciousness of Man is aware of the gross physical world. The smallest existing thing is thought to be the atom – the single building block of any material. In the Dvapara Yuga the consciousness of Man is aware of the inner energies, the electricities which actually form the individual atoms of the physical world. Upon the dawn of the Dvapara Yuga, according to Sri Yuktesvar’s calculations, first Uranus was discovered, then Neptune and finally Pluto – the three planets not visible to the naked eye, the three planets not apparent at first glance. So while the visible planets answer the questions of the physical world, the concrete events and happenings, that which is happening inwardly can be most readily deciphered through the Outer Planets.
It is a simple matter to determine if you should or should not spend your time looking into the outer planets. Find the time of the outer planets transiting your planets and Bhava cusps, when they cross these things, you will find your internal life being stirred up towards change. As you get bored with the material world, you may even find it more interesting to time the periods of when the outer planets transit your horoscope than looking at whether you money, business, health, etc. will go up or down. Myself, when looking at my own chart, I like to see when the outer planets are out to get me so that I can know when I am going to experience another reality shift.
DO YOU HAVE TO USE THE OUTER PLANETS
Do you have to use the outer planets to time the periods of reality shifts and growth in consciousness? No, you can do it with the Dasas, because events always mirror our inner reality. Through the outer planets the astrologer can specifically see what the inner changes are and very generally see what the external mirroring causes are. Through the standard Grahas and the Dasas, etc. the astrologer can see the specific events and very generally see what the internal forces are creating. Using both the outer planets and the standard Grahas is the complete way to see the life as a whole – to look at the individual as a person living in a concrete world with real concerns and as an individual of ever greater emerging consciousness.
In order to understand how the outer planets fit into the greater picture of astrology, please first review carefully the Grahas and the Numbers as per the next chapter.
2.Grahas and Numbers
Vedic Astrology is very rich in symbolism; however, the root of astrology is mathematical, as it is for all occult sciences. Mathematics is the universal language, so it is very worthwhile to make a numerical study of the Grahas as well.
NUMBERS OF THE GRAHAS
Each Graha represents a particular number, which indicates the fundamental nature of the
Graha:
Sun 1
Moon 2
Mars 3
Mercury 4
Jupiter 5
Venus 6
Saturn 7
Rahu 8
Ketu 9
This is the order in which the Grahas are normally listed.
GEOMETRY
In order to understand the meaning of the numbers, each number can be described with the aid of geometric forms. Understanding the numbers in this manner will assist in understanding the Grahas.
One – Sun
The One is geometrically symbolized simply by a single point. It is the essential component part of all other forms and numbers and so of greatest importance. As the essential component part it represents the root element from which all has its source. One represents the beginning and initiation of all forms. As the integral part of all other forms, the One also represents completion and fulfillment on any level.
Beginnings, and initiations, are primary keywords for One, while completion and fulfillment may be taken as secondary due to the One being integral to all other numbers. All these are qualities of the Sun.
Two – Moon
Two is geometrically symbolized by a straight line, which is the form derived from two points.
Between the two ends of the line there is always a center point, a point of balance.
One end of the line is on the left, the other on the right; or one is above and the other is below. Two therefore represents duality; yin and yang, male and female, positive and negative, etc. The energy of the two is one of contrasting, but interactive forces, as the two points, though opposite, are joined. Any influence to one affects the other.
If we extend one end of the line, then the middle point shifts as well, the line has changed but balance is maintained. This is also shown by the yin/yang symbol of duality, where the forces are in constant flux and change, but always balanced.
Balance is a primary keyword for the Two. Contrasting though interactive, one affecting the other, and change that is based upon maintaining balance, are also keys to the Two. All these are qualities of the Moon.
Three – Mars
The Three is symbolized geometrically by an equal lateral triangle; fig. 3-1. For the first time we have a figure that encloses a space; tangibility and form now manifest. This is not a form of stability or stagnation, but rather, as the triangle symbolizes, a form of energy.
3.1
Attaching a similar triangle to each edge of the original triangle creates a similar, but larger, triangle; fig. 3-2. Growth has occurred.
3.2
Extending the edges of the original triangle we arrive at six lines that extend in such a manner as to never cross each other; fig. 3-3. The whole figure is one of expansion.
3.3
Growth, expansion, and energy are keywords of the Three, keeping in mind that growth and expansion are both due to energy. Growth and expansion that are the result of applied energy are qualities of Mars.
Four – Mercury
Four is symbolized by a square; fig. 4-1. The very form of a square is one of stability.
4.1
Attaching similar squares to each edge of the original square creates the figure of a cross; fig. 4-2. A cross is a symbol of the integration and unification of two contrasting forces. The Four represents some attainment of the Two. This attainment creates stability.
4.2
Extending the edges of the original square; once again a cross is formed. This cross is somewhat different than the proceeding cross as its four arms extend infinitely; fig. 4-3.
4.3
This form also gives a sense of growth, like the Three, but in a slower, more stable and consistent manner. The growth of the Three is due to energy and gives expansion, while the growth of the Four is for reasons of security, the desire to maintain stability.
A final geometric exercise, which was not possible with the triangle of the Three, is to connect the angles within the form as fig. 4-4. Again a cross is formed symbolizing attainment and stability, but in the inside of the square and thus the Four also represents inner security, which is the result of experiencing concrete security.
4.4
Stability and attainment are primary keywords for the Four and, therefore, Mercury, while
security, both inner and outer, can be taken as a secondary keyword.
Five – Jupiter
Five is symbolized by a pentacle; fig. 5-1. The interior angles of the pentacle measure 108 degrees, a number symbolizing fulfillment.
5.1
Connecting the inner angles of the Pentacle creates a five-pointed star; a pentagram; fig. 5-2, inner star. The pentagram has long been a symbol of grace, and luck.
5.2
Extending the edges of the original pentacle creates again a pentagram; fig. 5-3, outside star.
The symbol of the pentagram holds its sway in full on the Five.
5.3
Attaching similar pentacles to each edge of the original pentacle yields the drawing of a “flower” in fig. 5-4. It is noticed, however, that there is an element of open space between each “petal” which can never be filled by a pentacle. There is therefore a noticeable lack in the sense that it is no longer possible to build upon the structure of the Five; there is a lack of constructive potential. This lack at some point in time causes one to turn away from the fulfillment of the Five in order to grow, but this turning away is often not one of choice. Changes, therefore, may come that force this; or stated another way, grace is not always easy.
5.4
Fulfillment, luck and grace, are primary keywords of the Five and, therefore, Jupiter, while lack of constructive potential leading to needed change may be taken as secondary keys.
Six – Venus
Six is geometrically symbolized by a hexagon; fig 6-1. A hexagon is a form of efficiency. “Honeycomb” is an engineering term relating to hexagonal cross sections that make efficient use of materials.
6.1
Extending the edges of the original hexagon we arrive at a six-pointed star; fig. 6-2. The six- pointed star is formed by two triangles, one pointing upward and the other downward. The upward pointing star is energy moving upward, while the downwards pointing star is energy moving downwards. There is a harmony of forces; spirit and matter, which is what gives the capacity for balanced enjoyment.
6.2
Attaching similar hexagons to the original hexagon creates the pattern; fig. 6-3. In this figure there are once again no gaps between the hexagons. Recall that in the Five there were gaps, being representative of a lack of potential growth. In the 6th this growth is again possible which gives an improvement over the Five.
6.3
Connecting the inner angles of the hexagon yields fig. 6-4.
6.4
Amongst this two noticeable patterns emerge: An inner six-pointed star; fig. 6-5, stressing the point of harmony, now we see it inwardly as well.
6.5
And Six inner triangles; fig. 6-6. Notice that the six inner triangles are of the exact size of the six external triangles. Only in the Six do we have such an example of balanced harmony. The outer fully reflects the inner. Outer circumstances, achievements and success reflect what one experiences inwardly; to say another way, what one experiences inwardly makes the events of the Six and Venus happen.
6.6
Looking closely at the six inner triangles reveals that they are exactly the same as the triangles symbolic of the Three; only now they are arranged in such a manner as to form a hexagon. This is an important point, indicating that some of the energy initially expended through the Three now returns in a favorable manner. Past energies assist in formulating the events of the Six. The strong connection between the Three and the Six, which will be demonstrated numerically soon, is shown.
Harmony, efficiency, and improvement are keywords for the Six and Venus. Past experiences and events influencing the present events, and also events generally reflecting one’s inner state are all indicated by Six and Venus.
Seven – Saturn
Seven is represented by a heptagon; fig. 7-1.
7.1
Attaching similar forms to each edge of the original heptagon creates the form in Fig. 7-2. The overlapping of the outer heptagons is symbolic of the outer unable to match or satisfy the inner. That which is within doesn’t find its match externally.
7.2
Connecting the inner angles as in fig. 7-3,
7.3
Two noticeable forms emerge: A seven-pointed star; fig. 7-4.
7.4
Another, though different, seven-pointed star; fig. 7-5, inner star.
7.5
Taking this further: Extending the edges of the heptagon yields the outer star in fig. 7-5. Notice that the outer star is formed by the same sized and shaped triangles as are surrounding the inner star; the inner desires that are lacking external fulfillment are represented by the points of the outer seven-pointed star. This discontent is the natural result of the consciousness being separated from Spirit. The seven-pointed star is a symbol of the discontent that motivates the search and striving that is one’s only hope when one finds that their world is unable to satisfy, ideally this is a spiritual search. This search results in change of some sort.
Change, searching, striving, all the result of the inner not being matched by the outer are qualities of the Seven and Saturn.
Eight – Rahu
Eight is geometrically symbolized by an octagon; fig. 8-1.
8.1
Attaching similar octagons to each edge of a center octagon creates fig. 8-2. Once again there is an overlap; the inner is still unsatisfied by the outer. Notice however that the trapezoidal overlaps are balanced forms, in fact the whole form is one of balance. In the Eight, external balance is created, though fulfillment is not given.
8.2
Connecting the inner angles as in fig. 8-3, three noticeable patterns emerge:
8.3
Eight triangles; fig. 8-4; these are non-equilateral triangles, symbolizing directed force which provides focused energy, or power.
8.4
An eight-pointed star; fig. 8-5, that is actually two crosses interlaced.
8.5
An eight-pointed star created from two interlaced squares; fig. 8-6.
8.6
Extending the edges of the octagon also yields the same star of two interlaced squares; fig. 8-7.
8.7
We have a star formed by two interlaced, separately complete forms; we also had this with the two triangles in the Six. The triangles represented energy; the squares represent stability, attainment and security. There is, therefore, a harmony concentrating on these. One of these squares or crosses, however, is not stabilized as it is on edge. The Eight is, therefore, indicative of creating stability, attainment and security, where there is none, but through the use of what one has that is stable, attained and secure. A harmony, or balance, needs to be created between what is stable, attained and secure, and that which is not. Also, stability needs to be created where there is none by utilizing that which stable attained and secure. The Eight is thus able to bring balance and stability, where there is none, utilizing that which is stable.
Looking at the form more closely reveals that the square that is solidly secure is in actuality preventing the other square from becoming stable. What is stable, attained and secure has become so through the expense of that which is not. The Eight is where this expense is paid by requiring one to create stability, security and attainment where there is none.
It will be noticed that the Eight is the most difficult of all numbers to explain, the most confusing as it were. This is the nature of the Eight, the area of imbalance is always one of confusion as focus has not been put there until now; the focus has instead been on what has been attained.
Power, confusion, unbalance and creating balance are keywords for the Eight and Rahu.
Nine – Ketu
Nine is geometrically symbolized by a nonagon; fig. 9-1.
9.1
Attaching similar nonagons to each edge of the original nonagon yields fig. 9-2. Again there is an overlap; the outer does not fulfill the inner, as we have seen in all numbers from Seven onwards.
9.2
Connecting the inner angles of the nonagon as in fig. 9-3.
9.3
Three prominent stars emerge, two as in fig. 9-4 and 9.5.
9.4 9.5
These two stars have reference to the collective energies of the nine numbers and nine Grahas in both their constructive and energetic qualities and reveal the completeness of the number Nine.
Most importantly, there is a nine-pointed star consisting of three interlaced triangles; fig. 9-6.
9.6
The three triangles are representative of the Divine or Christ Consciousness, the number
- The inside is complete and harmonious within itself. It is this inner completion, harmony and high state of consciousness that allows for happiness and bliss regardless of the external circumstances.
Extending the outer edges of the nonagon yields an outer star, fig 9.7 of the same type as the inner star of fig. 9.4.
9.7
Notice that in the Seven, Eight and Nine, there is always an outer star that is the same type as one of the inner stars. In the Nine, however, there is also one inner star that is not found outside the geometric form of the Nine – there is always something inside that is not to be found outside. There is always something hidden within.
Completion, happiness, inner harmony (though not necessarily outer), higher consciousness and bliss
are keywords of the Nine and the potentials of Ketu.
THE FOUR THINGS
Occult sciences hold that there are only four things; this is most simply stated in the Tao Te Ching: “The one beiame the two, the two beiame the thíee and the thíee beiame all thingfi.”
Tao te Ching: 2.28
The One is the Creative Spirit, the Two is the reflection of the Creative Spirit and the Three is the interaction of the Creative Spirit with His reflection. The Fourth thing is all created things, the many individualized things in creation, which are nothing but the first three things manifesting on another level. These four things are represented astrologically by the Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury. This is shown in the diagram below:
1
Sun Creative Spirit |
2
Moon Reflection |
3
Mars Interaction |
4
Mercury Materialization |
The Sun, representing the Creative Spirit is the creative center of our solar system. The Sun is reflected by the Moon which gives rise to the many individualized consciousness, which interact by exerting what is in their consciousness through Mars. All that we interact with is actually the Creative Spirit. Interactions vary and differ as a result of the Three Gunas, the three qualities that motivate all actions. These three numbers and their Grahas manifest on a new level, the concrete realm of physical materialization, ruled by Mercury, the Graha associated with the Earth element. The Three is able to manifest all the innumerable forms of the Four on account of the differentiating qualities of the Three Gunas.
Now that these Four have been explained, we can proceed to explain the remaining numbers and Grahas with the help of the diagram below showing all nine Grahas.

Mercury, on the level of Materialization, has its reflection, just as the Sun has the Moon as its reflection on the level of Consciousness. The 5th Graha, Jupiter, is the reflection of the 4th Graha, Mercury. All that is manifested is the Four, which has its reflection in the world as good and evil, right and wrong, the qualities differentiated through the knowledge given by Jupiter, the Five. Having the knowledge of good and evil, right and wrong given by Jupiter, one must interact with the concrete world indicated by Mercury. This is done through the agency of the Six, the Graha Venus. Venus evaluates and makes the choices. Venus is a friend of Mercury and a neutral of Jupiter, thus Venus understands that all of the concrete world is a manifestation (Mercury) of Spirit/consciousness, and is not circumscribed by the right and wrong of Jupiter. Venus chooses to do not what is right or good, knowing that both are an aspect of Spirit/consciousness, but to choose what it finds most worthwhile. Venus does this with the knowledge that everything has a price and that the price must be considered when making the choice. (For this reason Venus is a friend with
Saturn, the Graha that exerts the payment, and the Graha that follows Venus.) Since the knowledge of “good” and “evil” represented by Jupiter reflects the price that one has to pay for any choice, Venus does not go against the grain of Jupiter, nor though does he care for Jupiter’s dictates. Venus follows his own dictates of healthy evaluation which provide for the same path as Jupiter’s dictates of right and wrong.
Being part of the material creation, making choices to do what one finds worthwhile while being constrained by the dictates of good and evil, results in lack, which is indicated by the Seven, Saturn. The three things, Mercury/Four, Jupiter/Five and Venus/Six manifest as the fourth thing, Saturn/Seven. Lack, the quality of Saturn, results from making choices in the world due to two reasons: Each choice requires that something else is left behind, the left behind thus becomes a source of lack. Ill choices result in paying more for something than it is worth and this payment may take the form of debts or the undesirable fruits of past ill Karma.
On the level of lack and experiencing the effects of ill choices, Saturn has his reflection as Rahu, and thus it is said, “Rahu gives the effects of Saturn.” The lacks, debts and fruits of ill Karmas represented by Saturn are reflected in the individual’s life through Rahu. All that can be done with these things is bear them until their timely completion. This completion is represented by the final Graha Ketu.
NUMERICAL INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE GRAHAS
So far we have studied each Graha as a singular number, each Graha, however, has many facets, which are revealed by manipulating the numbers.
Addition
One manner in which numbers may be manipulated is to add up all the numbers containing a number. Two, for instance, contains both 1 and 2. Adding up 1+2 results in 3, thus the number Two, and thus the Moon, also embody the quality of Three. In the event that addition results in a two or larger digit number, the individual digits are to be added together to reduce the number to a single digit. This is known as numerical reduction.
Performing the exercise for all the numbers yields the following:
1/Sun | 1 = 1 |
2/Moon | 1+2 = 3 |
3/Mars | 1+2+3 = 6 |
4/Mercury | 1+2+3+4 = 10 = 1 |
5/Jupiter | 1+2+3+4+5 = 15 = 6 |
6/Venus | 1+2+3+4+5+6 = 21 = 3 |
7/Saturn | 1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 28 = 10 = 1 |
8/Rahu | 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8 = 36 = 9 |
9/Ketu | 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = 45 = 9 |
Square Root
The square root of a number reveals its foundation. Only a few numbers have a square root:
1/Sun: Square Root is 1
4/Mercury: Square Root is 2
9/Ketu: Square Root is 3
Square
The square of a number reveals the number’s result. Each number has a square, which in most cases must be reduced:
1/Sun 1 Squared = 1
2/Moon 2 Squared = 4
3/Mars 3 Squared = 9
4/Mercury 4 Squared = 16 = 7
5/Jupiter 5 Squared = 25 = 7
6/Venus 6 Squared = 36 = 9
7/Saturn 7 Squared = 49 = 13 = 4
8/Rahu 8 Squared = 64 = 10 = 1
9/Ketu 9 Squared = 81 = 9
The additions, square roots and squares of all the numbers are shown in the diagram below. The study of the numerical diagram has much to offer. First notice that the addition of all the numbers One, Four and Seven yield One, the number of beginnings and initiations. These three, the One, Four and Seven, each initiate the beginning in their respective levels: The One initiates the level of Consciousness, The Four initiates the level of Materialization and the Seven initiates the third level, which is the result of Consciousness manifesting itself as Creation – the level of lack and growth of consciousness.

The only other number that has a One influence is Eight/Rahu, whose square yields One. This indicates that the need for the individual to experience the effects of their past Karmas initiates new events into their lives.
On the first level, the level of Consciousness, the addition of all the numbers in the Two/Moon yields the following number Three. This reveals that the moment that the One Creative Spirit symbolized by the Sun is reflected as the many individual consciousnesses symbolized by the Moon, these two begin to interact, the number Three. A similar thing happens in the other two levels. In the level of Materialization, the addition of Five/Jupiter yields Six/Venus, thus the minute a difference of quality and goodness is understood through Jupiter, one begins to make choices through Venus. On the third level of Lack, the addition of Eight/Rahu yields Nine/Ketu – the moment that the individual begins to experience the effects of past Karmas, they begin to move towards greater consciousness.
Mathematically, the One/Sun is unique in that it not only is the One, but its addition, square root and square are also One, thus the Sun is changeless and symbolizes the soul.
Ketu is similar to the Sun, but a bit different. Ketu is Nine, its addition yields Nine and its Square yields Nine, so it is also changeless and thus represents the liberated consciousness. The important difference is that Nine’s/Ketu’s source is Three, which is shown by its square root. Thus the foundation of the changeless liberated consciousness indicated by Ketu is in the individual character indicated by Mars.
The square of Two/Moon is Four/Mercury, revealing that the birth of the individual consciousness, the Moon, yields concrete manifestation, Mercury. Due to the square of Two being Four, Mercury is considered the son of the Moon.
The square of Three/Mars is Nine/Ketu, revealing that the character indicated by Mars will generate a liberated consciousness. It also supports the astrological dictum that Ketu gives the
effects of Mars. The square of Six/Venus also yields Nine/Ketu, revealing that the devotion and good decision making of Venus results in completion and liberation. Both Mars and Venus are thus mathematically seen to be important for the spiritual life.
The square of Four/Mercury is Seven/Saturn, revealing that the result of material manifestation is invariably lack and disappointment. Further, the square of Seven/Saturn is Four/Mercury, revealing that the result of lack and disappointment is either further efforts towards material manifestation or acceptance that comes from realizing that all that is manifest is an aspect of Vishnu. For this reason Saturn and Mercury, according to Jaimini’s Upadesah Sutras, make one a Vishnu devotee. The fact that Mercury squared equals Saturn and that Saturn squared equals Mercury has another important revelation. Mercury is the lungs and Saturn the movement of Prana from the brain through the nerve endings into the senses. As long as the breath is flowing, Prana moves towards the senses and the illusion of creation is maintained. The squares of these two Grahas’ numbers being each other’s numbers reveals a vicious cycle of bondage which can only be broken by the scientific Yogic methods of stopping the breath.
The square of Five/Jupiter yields Seven/Saturn, revealing that the knowledge of good and evil understood through Jupiter produces the capacity for Saturnine duty and though the performance of duty always has an element of lack, the happiness and idealism of Jupiter allows one to enjoy their duties since they realize it is the best choice. The best choice being shown by the fact that the addition of Five/Jupiter is Six/Venus.
In this way the mathematical relationships of the Grahas should be studied. This table has much to reveal, the more it is studied the more you will understand the Grahas. What I have written is only a small bit of what can be gleaned from its study.

4.Bhava and Planet Correspondence
Traditionally, in order to predict events, each planet is a producer or Karaka of the several Bhavas. For instance, Jupiter is the Karaka of Children, the 5th Bhava. In respect to a developing individuality, each planet most significantly relates to a particular Bhava. Now that we finally in the Dwapara Yuga and are tracking the outer planets, we can make such correspondences for each of the Bhavas.
1st – Sun: foundation of the chart, Foundation of the individuality.
2nd – Moon: Growth of the individual through accomplishment.
3rd – Mars: Strength of character and mind, includes strength to go after what one thinks they need. 4th – Mercury: Enjoyment of the many facets of self and life.
5th – Jupiter: Creativity of children and knowledge.
6th – Venus: Bearing burdens with comfort and with a sense of dharma and prosperity.
7th – Saturn: Psychological Shadow which is projected upon others.
8th – Rahu: Hidden and unexpected vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
9th – Ketu: Anchoring beliefs.
10th – Uranus: Karma that brings out individuality.
11th – Neptune: Greatest hopes and longings.
12th – Pluto: Need to let go and move forward with a greater consciousness.
5.To Aspect or not to Aspect
As there is no guidance given by the ancient astrological texts on the Outer Planets, one wonders whether they cause aspects or not, and if they do, what are their aspects.
Firstly, there are three types of aspects:
- Graha aspects which are dependent upon the degrees from the aspecting planet to the Different planets have different aspects. These are the aspects commonly used by most Vedic Astrologers.
- Rasi Aspects which are dependent upon the Rasis in which a planet is located. Different Rasis aspect other Rasis and so does the planet in the These aspects fall under the domain of the Rasi based system propagated by Jaimini.
- Tajika Aspects which are dependent upon the degrees from the aspecting planets to the aspected. The important factor about these aspects is that some aspects are considered friendly and other These aspects are similar to the aspects used in Western astrology as the Tajika system is the Persian astrology that modern western astrology is derived from.
Since the Outer Planets are not visible, we can perhaps relate them to Rahu and Ketu, who are also not visible. We know that Rahu and Ketu do not cause Graha aspects because their calculation is not given in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra where the specific calculations are given for the other planets. We know that Rahu and Ketu do cause Rasi aspects because Jaimini’s Upadesa Sutras mentions the aspects of Rahu and Ketu and these must be Rasi aspects as that is the only aspect that Jaimini concerns himself with. It is not clear as to whether Rahu and Ketu cause Tajika aspects or not. There are no statements in the Tajika texts that mention their aspect, nor are there any statements prohibiting their aspect. However, if they had Tajika aspects, they probably would have been mentioned somewhere in the Tajika texts. If we relate the Outer Planets to Rahu and Ketu, then we can surmise that they do not cause Graha aspects, they do not cause Rasi Aspects and the probably do not cause Tajika aspects.
RASI ASPECTS
Rasi aspects are not really aspects in the same sense of the word as are Graha aspects. Rasi aspects are based upon the fact that certain Rasis influence each other. Thus if a planet or Rahu or Ketu is in a Rasi, it will impact that Rasi. As a result of this impact, the Rasi will have a different influence upon certain other Rasis than it would if it did not contain a planet. Thus if an outer planet is transforming some Rasi in which it is placed, then those Rasis influenced by that Rasi will likewise be transformed. So learn well your Rasi aspects:
A Graha in a moveable Rasi aspects the fixed Rasis, except the fixed Rasi right next to it, thus a Graha in:
Aries aspects Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Cancer aspects Scorpio, Aquarius, and Taurus. Libra aspects Aquarius, Taurus, and Leo.
Capricorn aspects Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio.
A Graha in a fixed Rasi aspects the movable Rasis except the movable Rasi right next to it, thus a Graha in:
Taurus aspects Capricorn, Libra, and Cancer. Leo aspects Aries, Capricorn, and Libra.
Scorpio aspects Cancer, Aries, and Capricorn. Aquarius aspects Libra, Cancer and Aries.
A Graha in a dual Rasi aspects the other dual Rasis, thus a Graha in:
Gemini aspects Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Virgo aspects Gemini, Pisces and Sagittarius. Sagittarius aspects Pisces, Gemini, and Virgo. Pisces aspects Sagittarius, Virgo and Gemini.
Rasi aspects go both ways, thus a Graha aspecting a Graha via Rasi aspect is always aspected by the aspected Graha in return.
OUTER PLANETS DO EFFECT EVERY OTHER PART OF THE HOROSCOPE
Even though Outer Planets do not probably cause planetary type aspects, like everything in astrology, they do affect everything else in the horoscope through the house they are in. Thus an outer planet may be in the 4th house from the Lagna, but in the 2nd from Mars, the 3rd from Jupiter, the 7th from Venus, etc. and it will thus affect each planet differently.
From any point or planet, a planet in a house will have the general effects as per the house it is in from the planet or point.
1st – Stimulates and brings to life.
2nd – Secures and provides
3rd – Develops skills and strengths.
4th – Affects happiness and mental well being.
5th – Affects knowledge and creativity.
6th – Improves or gives need for improvement.
7th – Shares, makes one aware through another.
8th – Destroys, changes, threatens.
9th – Affects beliefs and sense or right.
10th – Affects actions and duty.
11th – Affects goals and that which is gained and obtained. 12th – Affects loss and assists in letting go.
The effects of a Graha are most noted in the angels: the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th.
6.Dignities and Rulerships of Outer Planets.
The Outer Planets, like Rahu and Ketu, do not have rulerships or dignities. Though western astrologers have attempted to assign rulerships to the outer planets, they rulerships just do not work as well as the traditional rulerships. Like Rahu and Ketu, the outer planets will be as good as their lord’s dignity.
7.What the Outer Planets are Doing
As has been shown by the numbers of the planets, the three Outer Planets are working on the same level – the level of breaking the individual into the next level of consciousness. Since they are all working on the same level, they work in concert.
Uranus
There are three levels of development of consciousness, first the Individual must become secure in their individuality and in so doing express their true individuality and creative potential. This is done through Uranus. Those things that Uranus influences are those things through which the individual will develop their individuality and through which they will express their creative uniqueness. Thus the more planets close to the same degree in their Rasi as is Uranus, the greater the development of the individuality. The individuality that Uranus is pressing upon one is the expression of the light of the soul and is different than the norm. Uranus thus shows where things are done differently or unusually. The need to take the next step in one’s individuality may manifest as rebellious feelings and independent action until the individualization process is complete. It is Uranus’s duty to bring out the light of the soul.
Neptune
Upon the birth of greater individuality, comes the desire for union with something greater – the greater the individuality, the greater the union must be in order to satisfy. It is Neptune that indicates the need for union with something greater to oneself. Those things that Neptune influences are those things for which the individual has longings greater than can be fulfilled by earthly things. These things thus create the longings that spur the healthy individual towards greater spiritual realization. The need to take the next step in one’s spiritual union may manifest as intense longings and lack of fulfillment until the process of greater union is complete.
Pluto
One express more self through Uranus, one connects to more through Neptune and finally one makes the great breakthrough through Pluto. The great breakthrough is the destruction of the ego’s attachment to itself. It is Pluto that destroys the egocentric idea of I. It is Pluto that frees of all Sin, of which there are only two according to the Srimad Bhagavatam, the sin of I and Mine. Those things that Pluto influences cause pain and frustration until the idea of I and Mine is not a part of those things.
8.The Outer Planets in the Rasis
The foundation of everything that one is becoming is dependent upon the Rasis in which the Outer Planets are placed. The fundamental developmental urge is indicated by these Rasis. The Outer Planets will be exerting their influences upon all those things that the Rasis represent, which are a lot of things. To keep it simple, it is best to start with those most important considerations of the Rasis as given by Jaimini in his Upadesa Sutras.

RASI ASPECTS
The primary development will occur in respect to the Rasi in which the Outer Planet is placed. As a result of this development, the Rasis Rasi aspected will also be developed. The order in which they will be developed is that the moveable Rasis go forward to the Rasis they aspect. The Fixed Rasis go reverse to the Rasis they aspect and the Dual Rasis go forward or reverse depending upon the Rasi being odd or even.

9.The Outer Planets in the Houses
Houses and Rasis have similarity of meaning, though the houses are more concrete. The outer planets will be exerting their inner developmental influences on the individual in respect to the indications of the house in which they are placed. Review the meanings of the houses as given by Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, along with their inner psychological meaning.

DEVELOPMENTAL PATH OF THE OUTER PLANETS
The outer planets help the individual let go of their limitations (Uranus), reach beyond themselves (Neptune) and break through ego attachments (Pluto). The do this be pushing the individual into those things represented by the opposite house from their placement. This provides the balance and renewed point of view that allows for healthy development to occur. So the focus of the outer planet’s developmental agenda is in the house they are placed and this focus is accomplished through the individual engaging healthily in the opposite house.
EFFECTS OF OUTER PLANETS IN BHAVAS
Uranus
In whichever Bhava Uranus is placed the individual must learn to live as an individual with complete acceptance of who and what they are. Until they do so, restlessness and unstable feelings will be felt towards the Bhava. The individual must learn what works for them, because it works, not because it is different. This generally means a balance between the extremes that Uranus is pushing them into and what the norm is in the world. This balance is a blend between the house the Uranus is in and the opposite house.
Neptune
In whichever Bhava Neptune is placed the individual must learn to expand their hearts and minds to include something greater than themselves. Until they do so, discontent and longings will invade their consciousness and they will have incomplete fulfillment with those things of the Bhava. This means the individual must accept that which is available from the house in which Neptune is placed while acting upon the indications of the house opposite Neptune.
Pluto
In whichever Bhava Pluto is placed is where the egocentric needs must be destroyed and transformed. These are always deep security needs for it is the egos job to give a sense of security, however false that security may truly be. Circumstances relevant to the house opposite Pluto’s position are those circumstances that force the individual to break free from these deep ego needs, which will not provide the security desired. Until all egocentric attachments are transformed, the individual will have no true security in respect to the house that Pluto is placed.
RELATIONSHIP OF OUTER PLANETS TO RAHU AND KETU
All the development urges of the outer planets are the result of needing to break free and expand beyond the individual’s present limitations of consciousness, which means to go beyond the development that their past lives have provided them. That which an individual’s past lives have provided for them are indicated by Ketu. Thus Ketu’s position will reveal the life and behaviors that have brought about the need to develop through the houses that the outer planets are placed in. Rahu’s placement, on the other hand, will indicate that which becoming involved in will force the outer planets to realize the potential of the house opposite their position. In this way Rahu and Ketu work together with the outer planets.
URANUS IN THE HOUSES
In whichever house Uranus is in, it is always the development of the true self which is at stake. Until the true self is shinning forth in life, the individual will suffer instability in respect to the house in which Uranus is placed. It is always the development of the true self that Uranus is concerned with and the instable affairs of the house in which Uranus is placed are only important as a means for this development to occur.
Uranus in the 1st
Uranus in the first indicates an individual that is becoming a whole new person. Until the person becomes the person they are meant to be, they will never feel quite right about themselves or what they are doing in their lives. This will create a tendency towards ambivalent and changing feelings in regards to their work and place in life. Until they become who and what they are meant to be from the foundation of a secure personality, there will be a tendency to look for stability, balance and validation in their relationships, the 7th house from Uranus. They will do this by either becoming involved with people that somehow validate their uniqueness, by exciting others into sharing their behaviors in order to validate themselves, or by having their partner criticize and not accept them, which eventually forces the individual to stand up and be who they are. These individual are full of surprises.
Uranus in the 2nd
Uranus in the second indicates an individual that is making breakthroughs in respect to their finances and means. These individuals never feel quite right about wealth, their possessions and that which they are responsible for (such as their family). The will not relate to their wealth, family or possessions in the normal fashion. They may have eccentric ideas about wealth and money, ideas which may land them in stressful situations until they learn the way to manage wealth that works for them, which will always be somewhat different than the norm. Never feeling quite right about their possessions, there will be a constant desire to change their possessions of make changes to their possessions so that they possession will be just right for them, but until they completely understand themselves and needs, they will never get anything they own to be just right. Once they truly know who they are, then they will quite easily find the things they need and what will work for them. These individuals are amazingly resourceful.
They will have quite different needs than their family members and at some point in their life will learn to mind their own business and to not get bothered by other’s attempting to interfere with their affairs. Often they will learn this lesson by being involved with others who don’t mind their own business or by being involved with those who it appears cannot manage their own business, in which case the individual will be drawn towards sticking their nose in that person’s business. In either event, minding each other’s business will not work and the individual will learn the importance of minding one’s own business.
Uranus in the 3rd
Uranus in the third indicates an individual that is learning to express their own unique ideas, thoughts and abilities in a way that is productive and serving some purpose in their lives. These things will only have purpose in their lives and the individual will only feel right about these things once they realize who and what they really are. Until that point, the individual will recklessly engage in whatever interests them without ever being able to make these things a part of their complete life and greater existence. There will be a great tendency in these individuals to not be interested in those things that they see as not being a larger part of their destiny and extremely focused on those things that they do see as part of their greater destiny.
Uranus in the 4th
Uranus in the fourth indicates an individual that is learning to feel with 100% truth. As a result of this development, the individual will have many various and changing feelings about everything in their lives. Until they develop the foundation of self with which to anchor their feelings, their inner world will always be in a fickle and instable state. Finding meaningful work with which to develop their individuality will create that which they need to ground their feelings upon, which once grounded will prove reliable and truthful with respect to whom they really are.
Until the individual has a truthful foundation for their feelings to operate from, they will feel instable in their residence and career and not feel quite right about what they are doing or where they live. This can bring about an adventurous, though unreliable nature and not until they are doing the unique thing which they are meant to will they feel right about where they life or their occupation.
Uranus in the 5th
Uranus in the fifth indicates an individual that is learning to express themselves in greater and more creative ways, ways which, however, must be in alignment with their true nature. Until the individual realizes their true nature, they may express themselves in eccentric, illogical or unproductive ways. Ultimately they will realize that anything that is a true expression of themselves or true creativity must have purpose in somehow serving others. For one’s true self does not reside in isolation, but amongst others and thus each true self will naturally attract a body of others with that which it creates and expresses.
Uranus in the 6th
Uranus in the 6th indicates an individual who is attempting to conquer the hardships of the world through their own sheer strength. However, until the individual realizes who they truly are they cannot be completely aware of the true source of the hardships that they may encounter in life. Until this level of self-understanding is achieved, there will be consciousness of feeling that many things are unfair and that life has not treated them right. Until the individual realizes that they are ultimately responsible for everything in their life, many things in life will be felt as painfully unfair and life will be a very frustrating experience. Once this realization takes place, the individual will discover the peace of detached action and surrender of the results, but until that point of arrival, the individual will find themselves constantly battling with forces greater then themselves which they cannot hope to win against and so they can only be left feeling that their their life is a failure. Only when they realize that the force that they are battling is themselves, will they have any chance of achieving the desired victory that leads to peace and harmony.
Uranus in the 7th
Uranus in the seventh indicates an individual that is learning to relate in a complete honest fashion. By honest is meant, to relate who they really are. Their degree to being able to do so depends upon how truthful they are to their individuality and the first step to that is for the individual to find out who they are. As a result, there will be the tendency to attempt to find out who they are through their relationships, though relationships will never, ever validate who they are and so they will always be forced to look for their own individuality in the end. Until they find and express this individuality, they will never feel quite right about their relationship or who they are with and so will have ambivalent and changeable feelings about their partnerships. These individuals tend to have the most unusual relationships.
Uranus in the 8th
Uranus in the 8th indicates an individual that is breaking free from any form of dependency. However, until they are completely secure in whom they are, they will always feel dependent, stuck or bonded to someone even when they have a lot more freedom and choice of their own than they feel. Feeling stuck while truthfully only being stuck with a lack of self-reliance and resourcefulness makes the individual feel that their life is a struggle between the conflicting forces of what they need and what everyone else needs or expects from them. As a result of these feelings, the individual is inclined to behave erratically in almost any situation where they may have expectations placed upon them or where they themselves have expectations. Only once the individual is really living the life that they are meant too and able to take care of their responsibilities in a healthy way will they have the balance to take care of their own lives while living a healthy interdependent live with others.
Uranus in the 9th
Uranus in the 9th indicates an individual that is attempting to find the path which will allow them to express the highest part of their nature in their every thought, word and deed. The difficulty lies in that they can only do this to the degree that they know who they are. Until that point, there will be a tendency to follow ideas, creeds and religions that validate only a part of their nature. In the end, it is only through trial and error, through study and effort, that the path will be found that will truly allow for their greatest potentials to be realized.
Uranus in the 10th
Uranus in the 10th indicates an individual that is striving to de and become all he can do and become. This Uranus position indicates an individual who feels it very important to be active and doing something. However, until they realize who they truly are, nothing they do will be a source of lasting happiness. As a result of this, the developing individual will have an unstable career and tend to change what which they do. This can oftentimes be the result of their individual ideas about a project clashing with those they work for. Until they realize themselves in a greater, more truthful way, their need to do things a certain way will often bring about irresolvable differences between themselves and those they work for or with those who work for them.
Uranus in the 11th
Uranus in the 11th indicates an individual that is learning to break free from any need to be loved and validated for anything else than that which they truly are. Until that point of realization, there will be the need to be validated for those things that the individual is currently identifying with. However, since the greater self that Uranus is attempting to bring forth can never be completely validated by any honor or esteem, the individual will never feel quite right in receiving their due rewards, income, love and adoration until they themselves became the great individual that in knowing who he is does not need any validation. Until that point of development occurs, the individual may aim for thing which they will believe will provide this validation, such as a particular income level, a particular success or a particular recognition. However, they will never achieve this, for that is not really what they are really aiming for. What they are really aiming for is to be themselves in a world of varied individuals and goals in which no one can truly understand or validate any ones else’s achievements. A world in which one in then end can only find reward in the stimulation of their own creativity.
Uranus in the 12th
Uranus in the 12th indicates an individual who wishes to be free from all personal limitations. While ultimately only oneself can impose limitations upon oneself, until the individual realizes this, limitations will be felt as part of anything in which they may engage. Thus such an individual will only involve themselves with things in an unstable, unreliable or incongruent manner. The individual will in time realize that they themselves are the limiting factor in their life – that becoming free from limitations means to become more, so that ultimately everything is an expression of their greater self and not, in fact, a limitation.
Conclusion
- Uranus frees the individual from any constraints or binds of the house it is
- In order to connect to become the greater individual that one is, the individual develops the house opposite
- Upon developing the house opposite Uranus, a greater individuality is
NEPTUNE IN THE HOUSES
Neptune represents the need to bond with something greater than ourselves in order to feel completed. Neptune thus represents the need for spiritual union. In whichever house Neptune is found, in that house the individual will experience longings and discontent which awaken the desire for something greater to connect to. Neptune’s position indicates those things which we have connected to strongly in the past, but which did not complete our need for union – not through any fault of their own, but due to the fact that nothing of the world, no Bhava so to speak, can fulfill this need. Experiencing discontent in the Bhava that Neptune is in prompts the searching for something deeper and more meaningful. The house opposite Neptune will be a house that in connecting to, the individual will grow so as to connect to the divine on a deeper and more meaningful level. In whatever house Neptune is in, there will be some discontentment present until the individual connects spiritually fully. Neptune always dissolves those things of the house it is in so that the individual can develop, as part of connecting to something greater, those things of the house opposite Neptune.
Neptune in the 1st
Neptune in the 1st indicates an individual who suffers a general discontent about their life, there career and who they are. Only through connecting spiritually can these people feel excited and purposeful about life. Neptune will dissolve their path, creating confusion about their life’s direction and thus prompt them into taking part in paths that are not of their own, but that of their partners. In learning to fulfill the needs of a partnership instead of their own personal needs, an entirely new level of fulfillment becomes available to the person.
Neptune in the 2nd
Neptune in the 2nd indicates an individual who does not find the hoped for happiness and fulfillment with any form of material security such as valuable possessions, wealth, friends or family. There need is for something greater than these things can give. Neptune will dissolve these very concrete 2nd house things so that the individual will have the opportunity to connect to things on more of an emotional and less of a physical level and thus develop greater emotional security rather than material security. Once the greater emotional security is developed, the individual will have a greater capacity to connect spiritually and thus a greater capacity for fulfillment.
Neptune in the 3rd
Neptune in the 3rd indicates an individual who is in need of growing larger than their intellect and practical abilities could ever allow. Neptune in this position dissolves a person’s connection to using their intellect, skills and trial and error in favor of their developing some more encompassing philosophy. Upon developing a more encompassing philosophy, the individual will be prepared to connect spiritually in a greater and more meaningful way.
Neptune in the 4th
Neptune in the 2nd indicates an individual who is unable to experience the emotional fulfillment which they hope for. There is a general feeling of emotional discontent and the individual is full of unrequited longings. These individual have great difficulty in acting upon their emotional needs. Neptune dissolves their happiness and their connection to anything that could provide lasting happiness in order to prompt the individual into action, action to fulfill their obligations and duties and thereby their needs. Upon these actions being taken, the individual finds greater happiness and connectivity in their lives.
Neptune in the 5th
Neptune in the 5th indicates an individual who suffers a general discontentment surrounding loving and enjoyment. They may feel that they love in a “vacuum.” Finding themselves unable to love and enjoy to the needs of their heart, they are prompted to seek out others of similar interests with whom they can experience a greater and more unifying love and joy. Upon experiencing a more unifying joy they realize the great purpose of love is to unify and not to love in isolation. Upon realizing this, the individual is able to love and connect on a much deeper and more fulfilling level.
Neptune in the 6th
Neptune in the 6th indicates an individual who finds no happiness or meaning in the daily struggle for survival as a result of which there is the need to get away. Getting away from the struggles of daily life can take many forms, of which the only healthy form is to get away from the attachment to the results of one’s daily life and learn to enjoy some form of inner contemplation. The individual will find fulfillment with their duties upon learning that fulfilling the daily needs for survival provides the individual with those things they need to maintain a healthy temple of contemplation. Those individuals not able to follow the inner path will desire to short cut their responsibilities, get things that they need for free and do almost anything they can to make life easier on themselves.
Neptune in the 7th
Neptune in the 7th indicates an individual who suffers discontent and longings in their relationships. No relationship provides the connection that they hope and long for and there can be the tendency to let relationships drift which are not felt to be fulfilling. Eventually Neptune will dissolve the connected feeling of any relationship and thus prompt the individual into developing as a fulfilled individual – rather than remaining in a fulfilled partnership. Becoming a fulfilled individual allows the person to connect spiritually in a greater way and thus fulfill the longings of the soul that relationships could not fulfill.
Neptune in the 8th
Neptune in the 8th indicates an individual who finds little satisfaction in the bonds they form with others. Neptune dissolves the bonds they have in order for them to develop the fulfillment that comes from self-sufficiency and resourcefulness. Upon the development of these things, the individual finds their connections with others and with all things to be much more meaningful and fulfilling.
Neptune in the 9th
Neptune in the 9th indicates an individual who finds that his needs are not meet with any available philosophy or believe system. Neptune will dissolve their feeling of connectivity to any religion or cultural standard and thereby prompt them into considering and testing other ideas. Upon discovering ideas that work in practical situations, a greater workable philosophy will be developed, which allows them to truly connect in the ways that they needed.
Neptune in the 10th
Neptune in the 10th indicates an individual who finds all their activities to be meaningless and discontenting, thus no 10th house activities will provide happiness. Neptune will dissolve the need and attachment for career and such and in so doing provide the individual with the opportunity to develop inner happiness instead of happiness on account of right actions. Upon the individual turning their attention away from activity towards inner development, they will create the heart necessary to bond with something greater and thus experience greater fulfillment.
Neptune in the 11th
Neptune in the 11th dissolves the individual’s long term focus and goals as a result of their not finding it fulfilling, but only discontenting to work towards happiness that can only come in the future. The dissolution of their long term focus and goals provides the opportunity for them to create as necessary and to find something to love and enjoy each moment. Upon their learning to do so, long term goals have meaning and purpose not in their fulfillment, but in the enjoyable moment by moment process of working towards the goal. Neptune in the 11th is teaching the individual to find happiness in the process and not in the goal so that each moment can be joyful.
Neptune in the 12th
Neptune in the 12th indicates an individual who suffers a general air of discontentment which can only be solved by their taking interest in practical affairs. Upon learning to put their energy into making life and the world better in practical and real ways, the individual will find themselves taking satisfaction in life.
Conclusion
- Neptune dissolves the house it is in or the feeling of connectivity with that
- In order to connect to something greater, the individual develops the house opposite
- Upon developing the house opposite Neptune, the individual has greater fulfillment and happiness and is now ready to connect with everything on a deeper level, which means they will also have more fulfillment with those things of the house the Neptune is
PLUTO IN THE HOUSES
Pluto position indicates strong security paradigms that the individual will in this lifetime be torn away from. The indications of the house that Pluto is placed in are those things that the individual believes to be what they need to get through life and to survive safely. They represent strong security needs of the ego which Pluto is going to transform. Pluto will prevent the realization of these security needs or destroy them and in so doing provide the opportunity to be more secure by developing the opposite house from Pluto. As this development occurs the narrow confines of the ego are destroyed, allowing the person to be reborn into a greater life. Pluto’s purpose in destroying the security of the house in which he is placed is to show the individual that they are not as secure as they believe. To show them that only when the opposite house from Pluto is handled just as readily is the believed security true. Opposite houses ultimately have the same meaning and so if one can only access one house and not the other, then the house they can access is not being accessed fully or truly.
Pluto in the 1st
Pluto in the 1st indicates an individual who believes that as long as they can dictate their every move, as long as they can manage by themselves that life will be manageable and that they will sail through life relatively unharmed. Pluto will put the individual into circumstances that are beyond their control or destroy their ability to dictate some important circumstances in their life. Either way the individual will have no recourse left but to develop needed partnerships and relationships. Engaging in relationships will be necessary but felt as very threatening to the individual’s security paradigm of “I can do it myself.” As they embrace the idea that “I can do it myself” includes doing things in partnership they realize the truth that an “I can do it myself” just as well means, “I can do it myself with another person.” Upon realizing this they have developed a true security of “I can do it myself” for a person who can do it himself but not in relationships can really not do it himself.
Pluto in the 2nd
Pluto in the 2nd indicates an individual who believes that as long as they are self-sufficient in their resources and able to manage things in their life through their own abilities that they will be handle life effectively and be safe and sound. Pluto will destroy their ability to access their resources or destroy their resources and thereby force the individual to depend upon other people’s resources. Doing so will be felt as extremely threatening to the individual and upon need to benefit from other’s resources they will suffer a inner breakdown of the ego. As the person learns to use and benefit from other’s resources and abilities he also learns the importance of teaching others to be resourceful and self-sufficient. While normally finding it easier to do things for others than to teach them to do it for themselves, the individual will eventually learn that it is more important to develop the others abilities than to do things for them or to give them money. Ultimately the goal of Pluto in the 2nd is to teach the individual that being resourceful means to have the ability to use the resources of others when available and not just their own.
Pluto in the 3rd
Pluto in the 3rd indicates an individual whose security is founded upon what they think they know. These individuals believe that, “as long as I know, things will be okay.” Pluto will, however, put them in circumstances, arguments and dilemmas that they cannot think their way out off or which they do not have the complete answer to. Not only that, but their intellect will have such a great need for security that they may find it difficult to make decisions until they know everything about something, which is often just not possible. In either case the person will be forced to develop a philosophy to live by that incorporates faith in those things that their intellect cannot grasp and which helps them manage things when they do not have all the facts.
Pluto in the 4th
Pluto in the 4th indicates an individual who believes that their emotional fulfillment is the most essential and only need. As a result of this, these individuals will tend to be compulsively needy and never emotionally fulfilled. Pluto will actually destroy those things which could provide emotional satisfaction in order to pry the individual away from their emotional self-absorption so that they can realize their higher duties. Upon acting upon their higher duties the individual will find a greater happiness and security for then they have realized one is only as happy as they have fulfilled their obligations and duties and how well one fulfills their obligations and duties directly reflects their level of happiness and emotional fulfillment.
Pluto in the 5th
Pluto in the 5th indicates an individual with a great need for self-expression and creativity. These individual usually have a magnetic and creative personality, however, they are so intent upon their own creativity and inspiration that they tend to behave as if they are the center of the universe and act as though everything and everyone around them is only there further their own inspirations. While they will not consciously think this, it is how they generally behave. Pluto will eventually break them down so that they can begin to appreciate the fact that nothing they create or do will be lasting or important unless it somehow includes fulfilling some purpose with or for others. That their creativity must somehow be a source of inspiration for others. At this point of realization they can begin to work with others towards similar goals and thereby experience a level of creative validation not before possible.
Pluto in the 6th
Pluto in the 6th indicates an individual who believes that hard effort and work will pay its due rewards. The problem is that the individual is attached to the fruits that their hard work and effort should produce and this attachment becomes a limiting factor in their lives for the fruit does not always correlate with the effort and this can leave the individual feeling unfairly treated and as life will just not work out. The need is there to surrender, to surrender the fruits of one’s labors for only one’s labors and efforts are under one’s own control, not the fruits. Doing so allows the individual to feel secure on a truthful level, the level over which they are in charge, and that is of what and how they are doing something. This position has importance in respect to dealing with people as well. Frustrations with people will also set in so long as the individual believes that there is a correlation between how they treat people and what the people return. The individual must also learn that it is important to treat people well for one’s own sake, not in so that people will return the favor, what people return must therefore also be surrendered, especially in times of conflict with people.
Pluto in the 7th
Pluto in the 7th indicates an individual whose needs are all tied up into their relationships and partnerships. They will be powerfully attracted to those who they believe to the ONE. Their intense need to find the ONE will never be realized in the way that they need and Pluto may in fact destroy any relationship of that potential in order to provide the opportunity for the individual to develop as an independent being. Upon developing more as their own independent person the individual will experience a level of security and satisfaction that was not possible before and they can then bring this security and personal satisfaction into a relationship and then have a balanced partnership. Pluto in the 7th teaches that a relationship is only as good as is the individual and that if one needs a more fulfilling relationship, then they must first become more fulfilled as an individual.
Pluto in the 8th
Pluto in the 8th indicates an individual who believes that as long as someone or something will provide for them that they will be able to get through and survive. Pluto in the 8th will, however, destroy those people and things which may be able to provide security or make those things untrustworthy or unreliable. This forces the individual to develop their own personal security and their resources. Upon developing their resources and resourcefulness, the individual will realize a whole new level of security and ability with which they can not only better survive themselves, but which also they can better survive and grow with others with which there may be dependencies.
Pluto in the 9th
Pluto in the 9th indicates an individual whose security needs are dependent upon their beliefs. Pluto will, however, put the individual in situations where their beliefs do not satisfy the immediate needs and this will prompt the individual to try things and see what works for them and to develop an independent system of ideas based on that which actually works for them in their life. Ultimately they will learn that belief means it is worth trying, not necessarily that it is true. If in trying it, it works, then the belief can be considered as a truth and so the Pluto in the 9th individual must essentially test each belief t hey have or else it will fail them when they really need it. In the end, the only beliefs that will be adhered to will be the beliefs found to work in actual practice.
Pluto in the 10th
Pluto in the 10th indicates an individual who believes that the grand fulfillment of their higher duties is most essential to life. Pluto will destroy the fruits of this fulfillment or destroy any possibility of this fulfillment and thereby provide the opportunity for the individual to realize that it is really just happiness that is important. Upon realizing this, the individual will be able to fulfill their duties from a foundation of happiness and not with the intense belief that doing what they need to do is going to make everything okay in their life.
Pluto in the 11th
Pluto in the 11th indicates an individual whose security needs are all locked into the needs of some group or their peers. Needing to be validated and thought of important by others is a primary concern for only that is felt to guarantee their safety and security. Pluto will destroy validation derived from their peers and groups and in so doing provide them the opportunity to realize the importance of creating that which their own inspiration dictates and that if the group does not support their own unique expression and creativity that it is not a group needed to be validated by. Upon realizing this, the individual will become a self-creative personality who can truly create and experience security with others since the security will be based on one’s true expression.
Pluto in the 12th
Pluto in the 12th indicates an individual who is ready to make a great breakthrough into another existence for it is Pluto that corresponds to the 12th house. In preparation for this breakthrough, the individual may have little attachments and material needs and little ambition as well. Often these individuals do not know where to begin their life and this is the result of their being at some great end in their soul’s journey. However, due to having a body they still have work to do and so Pluto breaks there hoped for peace and rest and forces them to deal with the harsh realities of life. Upon embracing the realities of life and that which they must do, they pay any residual debts that are required to be paid before they can make the transition into their next and greater level of existence and then they are able to live their lives as they are meant to with focus, ambition and success. Individuals with Pluto in the 12th are required to step forth and make improvements in their lives and to learn that even though they are ready for the next step, the next step does not come by itself but by continuing to work for improvement.
Conclusion
- Pluto destroys the ego’s security needs relevant to the house in which Pluto is
- Upon these needs being destroyed, the individual’s only option is to develop the house opposite Pluto, though doing puts the individual into what is felt as a very, very vulnerable
- Upon developing the house opposite Pluto, the individual realizes a greater level of real security, security that is free of ego attachment and which is thus a more real and true
OUTER PLANET CONJUNCT RAHU OR KETU
Any time an outer planet is joined with Rahu or Ketu, the focus on that house becomes doubly intensive. If it is Rahu that the outer planet is joined with, all the focus will go into developing that house and very little energy will be spent on developing the house opposite Rahu. Even though all the focus will go into developing the house, the inner radical, discontenting and tumultuous feelings of the outer planets will accompany everything of that house.
If it is Ketu that the outer planet is joined with, all the focus will go into becoming free from, dissolving or destroying attachments relevant to that house. However, there will be many, many such things to breakthrough in this lifetime and so many of the things will come into the person’s life only to have the person break through them.
10.The Outer Planets influence upon other Grahas
The outer planets will influence all the other Grahas in respect to the house in which they are placed from that Graha. The closer the outer planet is to the exact degree, within the Rasi, of the Graha, the more powerful effect. So look for outer planets that are close to the same degree within their Rasi as are the Grahas.
Here again are given the nature of effects in accordance with which house the outer planet is in as counted from the concerned planet.
9th – Affects beliefs and sense of right.
10th – Affects actions and duty.
11th – Affects goals and that which is gained and obtained.
12th – Affects loss and assists in letting go.The angular positions (conjunction/1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) of an outer planet from a Graha are the most important.
11.Transits of the Outer Planets
The static position of the outer planets in the natal chart indicates the lifelong themes along which the individual will be developing into a great and more fulfilled personality. As life progresses there will be periods of extreme growth and these periods will be indicated by the transits of the outer planets. Any time an outer planet transits a house, a planet, or a house from a planet it will be a time of growth in respect to the transited planet or house. When it is a house from a planet that is being transited the growth will be in respect to the planet and the house as counted from the planet. As always, transits to the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th from a planet or the lagna are always most important. The tighter the influence that a natal outer planet is making to a planet in the natal chart the more important will be the effect of the transit of that outer planet to that planet. When looking at transits pay attention to:
- The transit of an outer planet across the Lagna or its passage across that same degree in any Rasi, which is the equal house from the
- The transit of an outer planet across the Bhava Chalita house
- The Transit of an outer planet across a planet or its passage across that same degree in any
The influence of an outer planet will be very intense and strongly felt right when the outer planet is exactly crossing the point. The range of effect, however, is during the time that the outer planet is in the same navamsa as that which it is transiting. So if the Moon is at 4 degrees of Aries it is in the 2nd Navamsa of Aries, which is from 3:20 – 6:40 Aries. So an outer planet anywhere from 3:20-6:40 Aries will have a noted influence on the Moon. The high and intense point, however, will be when the outer planet is exactly at 4 degrees.
The effects of an outer planet in transit will be the same as the effect of the outer planet in the natal chart. So follow the same principles that we have been working on.
