Unqualified apology is what I must offer. The fault is mine and totally mine because I accepted without hesitation the birth data of Sachin Tendulkar given by Pinki Karve in 2001. Before I elaborate it all, read about the background.

1980 and my enthusiasm

My interest has been in more than twelve games, indoor and outdoor I played and read about and wrote on, more as a sport journalist during my student days. I later kept alive my interest in these more as a sports enthusiast than as an astrologer. Cricket replaced all other sports in India is well known. Here too I watched matches never from any astrological angle. With age that zest was reduced. I rarely made predictions about sportsmen except more about Roger Federer the great tennis player recently.

The story of the suppression of the data

Sometime towards the end of the eighties of the last century when Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli had made

history as rising cricket prodigies, a producer of sports programme of the Doordarshan coming to Delhi from Bombay almost once a month promised to get me their birth details. My interest in the horoscopes of sportsmen has always been well known to people coming to meet me. But that was in the eighties of the last century. Now it has almost vanished.

Few weeks after, this producer again met me and apologized saying that the families of both Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli have been advised by someone never to reveal their correct birth details ever to anyone. Then and there stopped the search of the horoscopes of these two cricketers.Loss Of Interest In 2001

Like so many, I watched cricket matches but was never interested in the horoscopes of cricketers as with advancing age such interest declined. In some decades earlier I wanted to produce a big research on sports and even distinguish, astrologically, between cricketers and tennis players. I could not do it as I could not get enough correct horoscopes.

Then match fixing scandals of the earlier years of the first decade of this century led to steep decline in the interest I was taking in the lives and performances of cricketers.

Established as a cricketer in the year 2000, Sachin became a living cricketing legend with his achievements and some qualities journalists found in him. It was the Sachin era of Indian cricket and he was compared only with Brian Lara and none others as these two stood above the rest of the top class cricketers of the world.

The Year 2001

During this period Yogi Karve, his wife and daughter Pinky Karve had come to Delhi and stayed with us in the flat we had hired for a fortnight for them opposite to ours. It was a delightful twenty four hour interaction with the Karve family all those days with the usual burden of controlling rush of people wanting to meet them.

One day while we were discussing cricket and Sachin, Pinky told the story we have narrated often and gave us what she claimed were the only authentic details of Sachin’s horoscope describing the planetary position which she does like her father and gave us his date of birth as 21 April with Kanya lagna.

My Fault Again

Remembering what the producer of Doordarshan had told me, I accepted the version of Pinki Karve without least hesitation. Again my fault.

I must say that the fault is mine because I accepted the data given by Pinky who had always given me very correct data of many others. At no stage it occurred to me that there could be some aberration of her mind here.

My Greater Fault

My greater fault is that I passed on this data to others and asked them to verify Sachin’s life events which they did and I accepted.

We accepted it, used the horoscope but had no occasion to make any major prediction.

Twelve years after: 2012

In 2012 when Karveji visited Delhi and was staying with a member of parliament, he came to my house and on someone asking him about the birth details of Sachin Tendulkar he gave it as 24 April 1973 at 12 /59 Mumbai with Karka lagna rising with Lagna with seventeen degrees and thirty two minutes and with Moon in Dhanu with twenty four degrees and thirty five minutes.

My Embarrassment

My embarrassment was immense. In the presence of all sitting I could not have told Karveji that this led to a piquant situation. One of them had to be wrong either he or his daughter both of them with supernormal ability to find out correct birth time of people. I avoided it and tried to contact Pinki Karve repeatedly through telephone but failed.

In any case, the mistake is mine and I apologize for it.

Vaughn Paul Manley

Then came an email of Vaughn Paul Manley whom I address as Pavitran the name given to him by his guru. He forwarded an email from some reader of his website asking him to forward the details of the birth data of Sachin which was again what Karveji had given to me in 2012 and was different from what Pinky had given in 2001.

So it means that I fell into series of blunders in this matter and I therefore offer my unqualified apology.

Musharraf 1999

Earlier it had happened with me in 1999 in the case of Pervez Musharraf when a woman journalist passed on to me wrong year of his birth and time which I corrected ofcourse later.

In the case of Sachin Tendulkar he not being a political figure influencing the destiny of a nation, I was only watching his batting and not wanting to write about him astrologically.

1980 Princess Diana and Jagjivan Ram

In 1980 a journalist friend of mine had collected the birth details of the British royalty from the British High Commission and it proved partly wrong particularly the birth details of Princess Diana. I had no occasion to correct it.

Another friend had given me the horoscope of Babu Jagjivan Ram the famous politician again in eighties of the last century and it proved disastrous. I have no interest in getting the correct horoscope of Jagjivan Ram as I never used it.

But the Sachin data proved most trickily wrong and I again apologize for it.
