Prediction technics of Manubhai Shah – Part-1

We all at the advance stage of studying astrology. At this stage if I tell you that there was one astrologer in a small village of India, who didn’t believe in Navamsha & Varga kundalis and also not using Vishottari Dashas, what will be your reactions ? Late shri Manubhai S. Shah (23-12-1908 to 16-01-1985) of Gujarat was such astrologer who wrote that Navamansha and other varga kundalis are tools by which astrologer try to escape from his wrong predictions. He has written voluminous book “Jyotish Shiromani’’. In which Shah has given simple rules and substantiated it with 3597 horoscopes.

He studied western astrology but found solace in Indian Astrology. He considered astrology as science. He says that if you are able to predict 30 important events of one’s life with year and month, you are good astrologer. He has demonstrated how to do it with his above mentioned book which is available in Gujarati and English. He has written other 18 books which are sheer gems.

Mr. Shah is very honest in his writing. Firstly he has defined “benefic result and bad result’’ for every house then giving combinations. Therefore there will not be any confusion when he says good or bad result. These also made him to evolve standardize process by which he avoided repetition of text and these made him to serve number of people. He presented yogas in a manner which require less text.

Lat. Manubhai Shah once visited an astrologer, who insulted him. From there, Manubhai shah`s journey of astrology started. He learned Astronomy and Western Astrology, but did not satisfy.  Ultimately he found solace in Indian Astrology and declared that it is Gem on the Earth.

He only used Birth chart for prediction and for timing of events he used Paribhraman Kal Paddhti (Hindu Theory of planetary progression).

Though I believe in Dashas and Navamsha I respect Mr. shah`s techniques for its simplicity and effectiveness. When I concentrate on any horoscope I check it with his techniques, which never fails.

His most startling statement is “Rahu-Ketu are mathematical points and not planets, hence they don’t have any role to play in predictions”. Therefore he has not given positions of Rahu-ketu in any of the 3597 horoscopes of his collection.

Before I dwell on the predictions yogas of different walks of life given by him, let us see the pillars on which Manubhai`s prediction technique stands.

Sthan Karakas

Irrespective of the sign in which it is situated planet in certain house produce good result.

Manubhai say planet in his Karaka house will not be considered weak, but to be considered as in his own house. For example Jupiter in second house or 9^th  house in Makar Rashi.

Following are the karaka house of each planet.

Planets Natural friendship:

There are two category of planets:  Dev graha (Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter) and Danav graha (Saturn, Venus and Mercury). Dev grahas are winners. Danav grahas is defeated lot. Danavas are enemies of Devas. Moon is loved by all planets. No planet is enemy of Jupiter, he is Ajatshru.

Strong, weak and failed planets:

1 Debilitate planet is considered weak. Such planet could not give good or bad result as expected.

2. Retrograde Mars & Saturn to be considered strong, while retrograde Jupiter, Venus and Mercury to be considered weak.
3. Planet with Sun`s conjunction (Asta) gives result of the Sun.

Houses

Kendra houses (1,4,7,10) are beneficial houses. Generally 10 house is considered strong, but Mr. Shah consider 1st, 5th  and 9th houses as strong.

Sarak  (benefic) and Marak (killer) Theory

Mr. Shah on the basis of following three rules give Sarak and Marak Theory.

1. Lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses are Marakas (death inflictors) if they are not lords of kendra.
2. Saturn is Marak even if it is lord of kendra house.
3. Jupiter will not behave as Maraka even if he own 6th, 8th and 12th houses.

Accordingly following are the Saraka, Maraka and strongest Maraka planets for each Ascendant.

• It should be noted that Saturn is impotent, hence it will not be able to give good result of 5th and 7th house in spite of Saraka in Gemini and Virgo ascendants.
• Saturn is strongest Maraka in Cancer, Leo and Pisces ascendants.

Now we will see how weak planet become strong and strong planet becomes weak or say how Maraka planet turn into Saraka planet and vice a varsa.

Nich bhanga yogas: Neecha planet is considered weak, but it does not loss power to aspect. This power is weak. But if such planet is in his karaka house, then it get sthan bala and gives good result of his houses. For example Jupiter in 2^nd house in Dhan Lagna or kataka Mars in 3^rd house Vrishabha Lagna or in 6^th house in Kumbha lagna.

Any Saraka planet in neecha rashi is in yuti, pratiyuti or aspected by other saraka planets then also such planet become strong.

Any debilitate Maraka planet and Saturn in 6, 8 or 12 house also consider being neechbhanga yoga.

If Neecha Marak planet is connected to Saturn, by yuti, pratiyuti or drishti then such planet should be considered strongest Maraka.

Important note: Maraka planet is not able to give results of it karaka houses, hence considered malefic, but if such planet aspect his karaka sthana, then it give benefic result of his karaka house. For example in Gemini lagna Mars situated in 12^th house aspect 3^rd and 6^th house then Mars will give good result of 3^rd and 6^th house.

How retrograde planets become strong:

Retrograde Saraka Mercury, Venus or Jupiter considered weak. They are not able to give result of their own houses or karaka houses as expected. But if they are in their karaka house or in exaltation (except 6,8 or 12^th house) or in related to Saraka planet then they become strong.

Very important rule: Any planet which is lord of the kendra or 5th or 9th house and also lord of 6th, 8th or 12th house is Saraka, but it will not work as a strong Saraka if it is aspect by Saturn or conjunct Saturn or in Saturn’s sign or in 6th, 8th or 12th house.

Saturn is a Karaka of 6th, 8th and 12th houses meaning disease, enemy, death, loss, debt, interest and expenses. He is Yama therefore he is not able to give good results. He has one quality and it is satanic power. Native will be able to use this satanic power only if it is aspect by Sarak Sun or is aspect by Sarak graha.

Planets and their Social Status

Sun is king and he dwell in palace and live royal life.

Moon is queen and dwell in artistic home with garden and fountains. Her home is full of gold, silver and jewels.

Mars is minister or army chief. He lives in a bunglow as per his ministerial status.

Mercury is businessman, finance minister or treasurer and lives in a house as per his status.

Jupiter is Deva`s Guru. He lives in city in house witch has two or three rooms.

Venus is Guru of Devas and lives in two or three room house in a village.

Saturn is king of Danavas, he is demon, uneducated, cruel, dump, and hence people of Saturn live in slum.

1. In every horoscope ascendant is a hero. All other planets give result of their house according to the strength of lord of the first house. Native will attain status of the planet in who`s sign lagnesh is situated (except 6,8 or 12^th house)

For example if lagna is Taurus and Venus is in cancer, native will acquire status of Moon. He will come out of poverty and get happiness of vehicles.

Native`s nature will be effected by any planet in 1<sup>st</sup> house or aspect 1<sup>st</sup> house, but native will not be able to reach status of that planet. For example if Sun is in ascendant or aspect it, native will have nature of Sun but will not attain status of Sun or Sun`s sign. However if ascendant lord is in lower status planet’s sign, then such Sun will maintain the native’s position of lagna’s rashi. Suppose Sagittarius lagna lord is in Makara or Kumbh sign and Sun is in first or 7^th house, then native’s social status will not go below status of Jupiter.

Same way, if ascendant lord is placed in 6, 8 or 12^th house, native will not attain the status of the sign lord in which it is placed. In such situation if any benefic planet is in relation to lagna then native’s position is maintained as per lagna’s sign. But if related planet is of lower status then it will give lower status.For example, in cancer ascendant if Moon is in 6,8 or 12^th house, native will attain status of Saturn. But if Ascendant (not his lord) is aspect by Sun, then native will get status of Moon (not Sun).

2. Any planet connected with 1^st house lord by yuti, pratiyuti or drishti will impact nature of the 1^st house lord, but will not impact status of 1^st house lord.
3. When 1^st house lord (except Saturn) is in his karaka house in the sign having better status, then lagnesh will attain position of that planet. Suppose lagnesh Mars is in 11^th house with Jupiter in kubha rasi, then Mars will not attain status of kumbha but of Jupiter.
4. When 1^st house lord is in his karaka house in the sign having lower status, then lagnesh will be free from rashi dosha. In such a situation it is considered as his own rashi. Suppose in Dhana lagna lagnesh Jupiter is in 2nd house native’s financial statuswill not be of Saturn but Jupiter. In short, planet in its karaka house is said to be in its own house and free from rashi dosha.

5. When lagnesh aspect lagna, native attain status of lagna rashi or rashi of the lagnesh, whichever is higher.
6. If Deva lagnesh is in danava rashi, then lagnesh will not accept vices of danav rashi. However he will accept virtues of danav rashi and will get status of danav rashi.
7. Danava lagnesh will get result of the sign in which it is placed (except 6, 8 and 12^th house). But such native will suffer when Saturn in transit connect lagnesh by yuti, pratiyuti or drishti. Bad result will prevail even though Saturn is saraka and very bad if it is maraka.
8. Deva lagnesh in debilitation is considered weak. In kundali of such native if lagnesh is in lower status sign then native will get lower status. But Moon and Mars are exceptions.
9. If Danav lagnesh is in debilitation, then native will get position of that sign, but if that sign is of higher status rashi, native will not be able to enjoy higher status. For example lagnesh Mercury is in Meena rashi, Mercury will have to under go result of Meena rashi. But lagnesh Venus in kanya rashi then venus will no able to enjoy result of Kanya rashi. Similarly, if lagnesh Saturn in Mesha rashi, native will not enjoy result of Mesha rashi.
10. In Deva lagna (1,4,5, 8, 9 and 12 sign) kundali Saturn aspected by Mar’s 8^th drishti is said to be Saraka. Such native can use Saturn’s satanic power to do mass production.
11. Devas do not take advantage of Danavas position, but Danavas take advantage of Devas planets.
