Drishti Ganapati is a form of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and success. Drishti means sight or vision in Sanskrit, and Drishti Ganapati is believed to ward off the evil eye and bring prosperity to the home. Drishti Ganapati is usually placed at the entrance of the house, with a pair of idols facing inward and outward. He is also known as Shubha Drishti Ganapati, which means auspicious vision Ganapati.
According to one legend, Drishti Ganapati was created by Sage Agastya, one of the great sages of ancient India. Agastya wanted to have a vision of Lord Ganesha in his most beautiful and powerful form, so he performed austerities and penances for many years. Finally, Lord Ganesha appeared before him in the form of Drishti Ganapati, with hands holding various weapons and symbols of divinity. He also had a third eye on his forehead, a lion as his vehicle, and a lotus as his seat. Agastya was overjoyed to see this magnificent form of Ganesha and praised him with hymns. Ganesha blessed Agastya and said that whoever worships him as Drishti Ganapati will be free from all obstacles and attain happiness and prosperity.

Application:-
According to Vastu, the photos should be placed in such a way that they face the north, north-east or west direction. They should not face the south or be near a washroom or toilet. They should also be placed on top of the entrance door or in the central hall of the house. Drishti Ganapati photos are believed to ward off the evil eye and bring prosperity and happiness to the home.

Mantras –
The mantra for Drishti Ganapati is a sacred chant that invokes the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the giver of prosperity. There are different mantras for different forms of Ganesha, and Drishti Ganapati is one of them. According to some sources, the mantra for Drishti Ganapati is:

Om Hreem Sreem Kleem Gloum Gum Ganapathaye! Vaaranamukhe Sarvaarishtaan Vaaraya Vaaraya Om Svaahaa!

This mantra praises Ganesha as the lord of all obstacles and asks him to remove all the troubles and difficulties from one’s life. It also addresses him as Vaaranamukhe, which means the one with an elephant face. The mantra should be chanted with devotion and faith 16 times daily.

Another source suggests that the mantra for Drishti Ganapati is:

Pashankusha Svadantamraphalavan Akhuvahanaha Srishtikarta Ganapatim Pranamamyaham

This mantra describes the form of Drishti Ganapati as holding a noose, a hook, his own tusk, a mango fruit and riding a mouse. It also hails him as Srishtikarta, which means the creator of the universe. The mantra should be chanted with reverence and gratitude.

Some other general mantras for Ganesha are:

Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada

This mantra praises Ganesha as the one with a curved trunk and a huge body that shines like a million suns. It also requests him to remove all the obstacles and grant success in all the endeavors.

Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha

This is a simple mantra that invokes Ganesha by his seed sound Gam and his name Ganapataye. It is a way of expressing one’s surrender and devotion to him.

Ganesh Gayatri Mantra

Om Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vakratundaya Dhimahi Tanno Danti Prachodayat

This is a variation of the Gayatri mantra that is dedicated to Ganesha. It meditates on his attributes as the one-tusked and curved-trunked lord and asks him to enlighten one’s mind.
