The relevant Jaimini sutras are 23 & 24 found in section II chapter I. They read as

Sutra no. 23 has been differently interpreted by different commentators of Jaimini eg:
Shri Suryanarain Rao (grandfather of Late Shri B.V.Raman) –“If Ravi & Rahu Join Atmakarak in Navamsha, the person dies by snake bite”
Shri Sitaram Sharma & most of Varanasi’s Jaimini scholars follow transcription of Shri Suryanarain Rao.
Shri Irangati Rangacharya “If the moon alone occupies the 4th house from karakamsha & is aspected by Ravi & Rahu, the native dies by snake bite”
Shri P.S.Shastri “If the Ravi & Rahu are in the 2nd from the Atmakarak in Navamsha, the native dies of snake bite”
None of the commentators could prove their interpretation with practical charts. Every one talks about the Navamsha chart & Atmakarak’s placement there in.
Our researches has convinced us that Shri Jaimini takes RASHI CHART as mother chart & marks his various predictive lagnas in mother chart & predicts. HE DOES NOT USE RISING LAGAN as predictive tool as, being done in Parashari system. Rather he uses Rising Lagna as a tool in creating his own predictive lagnas eg: Pitree Lagan (is a sign in a rashi chart where Ascendant lord is placed), Uppada Lagan (Aroodha of 2nd bhava from Pitree lagan), Sign Aroodha
- [General Rule] Longitude of sign lord multiplied by two Less sign longitude – for non Kendra placement of a sign lord to own
- [Special rule] For placement of a sign lord in a Kendra to sign itself – Longitude of sign lord plus 90˚ degrees if sign lord is in own sign or in the 4th bhava, add 270˚ to longitude of the planet if sign lord is placed in 7th or 10th Count of bhavas is forward or backward for the Pitree Lagan & Uppada Lagan as marked in MOTHER CHART if their signs are odd or even.
Ravi Rahubhyam Sarpnidhanam is discussed under group of sutra dealing with 2nd bhava from Atamkarak Navamsha Lagan as marked in mother chart.
Longevity is represented by 8th & 3rd houses. The 12th from them are death houses denoted by 7th & 2nd houses. The 2nd house (bhava) also represents Mouth & 7th the Stomach. Rahu represents ‘Cobra’, the Sun represents ‘Soul’ (release). Death by snake bite is through mouth of the cobra hence death by cobra bite is through 2nd bhava (house) from Atamkarak Navamsha lagan as marked in Rashi chart. Ravi Rahu combination should relate to 2nd bhava and not Atamkarak Navamsha lagan as said by commentators of Jaimini. This combination may take following variations:-
- Ravi Rahu both occupy 2nd of AKN
- Ravi Rahu both aspect 2nd of AKN
- Ravi Rahu both join or aspect lord of 2nd of AKN
- One may join 2nd, other may aspect 2nd (Aspects are Jaimini aspects).
To find authentic horoscopes of natives who suffered from Snake bite are very difficult to obtain for verification of Sutras. In search of material we scrutinized past issues of The Astrological Magazine and laid our hands on an article on this topic in August 1984 issue at page 641 contributed by Shri Nitin Chandra Ray who quoted two horoscopes of his personal knowledge, hence authentic. The scribe explained snake bite on yogas under Parashari.

11th Sept 1952, 04:39 am, 20 N 29, 85 E 52, Ayanamsa 23 11 25s
The native suffered from snake bite. Why?
The Atamkarak is Jupiter which obtains Sagittarius Navamsha; hence Atamkarak Navamsha is marked in Rashi chart in Sagittarius. The 2nd there from is Capricorn with Rahu & aspected by the Sun. The snake bite is certainty as per Jaimini.

Reason for her survival: – AKN lagan in Rashi chart is aspected by Venus & also Atmakaraka Jupiter is aspected by Mercury. A local Mantrik saved the native – Mercury represent Mantra Shakti as well as medical treatment.
Chart No.-2
7th Sept 1965, 7:32 am, 20 N 29, 85 E 52 Asc
The native is beautiful girl, lived in the same Orissa village in which Mr. Ray lived, who was eyewitness to surprising events.
The girl first suffered from cobra bite on Thursday (of Jupiter). She was saved by an outstanding Sadhak through Tantrik Mantras. The cobra started regular bite on every Thursday. The girl was kept in a closed chamber to avoid bite. The same Tantrik made propitiations. The cunning cobra changed the day and tried to bite once or twice every month, whenever it got chance. She survived every bite. Probably she is destined to be
विष CI (a cobra girl,) as deadly as cobra.
Venus atmakaraka getting Virgo navamsha, it is to be marked in Rashi chart as Atamkarak Navamsha Lagan. IInd is Libra aspected by Ravi & Rahu both.
Survival: – Venus & AKNL aspected by Jupiter, Venus join AKNL, Mercury aspect Libra. All 3 shubhas are involved.
All our efforts to find more horoscopes with yogas of Ravi Rahu Sarpnidhanam failed. We requested the management of Saptarishi Astrology to provide more material on the subject. They could find out one horoscope from their records.
An American youth name Marshal Ried was bitten on the left leg by rattle snake on 14.4.1990 The child cried for help, his mother saw fang marks on his left leg. He was rushed to the hospital in unconscious state. He was treated for two days by the hospital. He recovered. Death averted.
Chart No. 3 – Mrashal Ried
4th April 1986, 20: 45 hrs, 107 W 01 , 32 N 46 24Li
Mercury is Atmakaraka in Aquarius Rashi & obtains Taurus Navamsha. So the Atamkarak Navamsha lagan is Taurus to be marked in Rashi chart. The 2nd house falls in Gemini Rashi. The Sun aspects Gemini & Rahu aspects Gemini lord Mercury. It is a potential case of snake bite. He was dragged from death. This happens when AKN Lagan or its lord or both are under benefic aspects (of course jaimini aspects). Jupiter aspects Venus the lord of Atamkarak Navamsha Lagan. Mercury the AK also aspects Venus. Mercury represent medicines. There is aspect on Rahu by 3 planets Moon, Jupiter & Mercury. There is exchange of aspects between Venus on one hand & Moon, Jupiter & Mercury on other.
The correct interpretation of two sutras as per the humble opinion of this scribe is:-
“If Ravi & Rahu aspect & or join the 2nd house from Atamkarak Navamsha Lagan marked in the mother chart, native dies of snake bite. Death is averted if benefices aspect AKN Lagan or its lord or both.”
