Introduction
Events in the life of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (aka Mata, Amma, Ammachi, and Mother) have taken place according to the principles underlying the Fixed Stars and the Nakshatras in Amma’s Horoscope. The word Nakshatra has several meanings: Asterisms, shining objects, to arrive at, approach, and come near. It also means protecting during the night of destruction. It is the contact, and therefore the resting place of Chandra the Moon with each of his wives. It begins opposite the fixed star Spica. Stories, hymns and myths from the sacred scriptures of India and other cultures are included to emphasize some of the characteristics. Special emphasis will be placed on the Fixed Stars and Nakshatras of the Moon, Sun and Lagna. Certain Jyotish timing mechanisms will be used to demonstrate when and how these characteristics unfold. Special thanks to Diana K. Rosenberg for providing material from her forthcoming book, The Secrets of the Ancient Skies. The Lahiri Ayanamsha is used to determine the planetary positions.
Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi was born in Parayakadavu village in Alappad Panchayat, district of Quilon, Kerala state, in South India officially on September 27, 1953 at 9:09:50 AM (India Standard Time). She was named Sudhamani (Ambrosial Jewel). The people of this village belong to the clan of fisher folk who trace their ancestry as far back as the Sage Parasara. It is also, according to legend the place where Siva and Parvati married.
Amma is considered by her devotees to be a Satguru i.e. a Perfect Master and it is believed that she represents the perfect selves of her devotees.
The Moon
The Nakshatra of the Moon at 5Taurus59 is Krittika (pronounced Karthika in South India) in the Pleiades of the Constellation Taurus.
Krittika
Krittika signifies a razor-Kshura or the end of an arrow that cuts through things (such as the truth) and is a flame. The deity is Agni, the God of Fire and Transformation. This Nakshatra and its deity signify the power to burn, to cook (our food and our vasanas-tendencies), and to prepare the sacred fire. Amma always has food prepared for visitors and residents (many times cooking and preparing it herself). Krittika means to cut, as in the vibration of Kali. As manifested by Amma, this vibration cuts the ego off in a razor sharp motion. Similar to Kali, she holds egos and karmas like the belt of skulls. Krittika was originally the first Nakshatra as referred to in the Atharva and Yajur Vedas. The Dasha (determined by the rulership of the Nakshatra where the planet resides at birth) is ruled by the Sun.
According to K. T. Shubhakaran, relating to Karthika“She cannot enjoy full comforts of her husbands. In some cases childlessness or separation from husband is also indicated and in few cases no marriage takes place.” Amma has no biological children, yet to her devotees, she is the universal, divine mother. There are also indications that if Amma had married the husband would have died.
The Pleides
The Pleiades are also called the Krittikas-the seven wives of the Rishis (the Great Bear -Ursa Major) with the principle star Alcyone.
These stars were also referred to as the Hen (Alcyone) with her chickens and produce energetic, capable, productive and powerful leaders that often achieve prominence. Alcyone is the star which our Sun uses as its center. Abundant crops and green pastures are attributed to the Pleiades, also called the “Rainy Stars” and they connect to the Floods of ancient times.
Alcyone is called Amba the Mother, Arundhati, the Central One, the Bright One, and the Leading One. The other six stars of the Pleiades are Electra, Caelaen (struck by lightning an attribute of both Jupiter and Indra), Taygeta, Merope (the missing one, as she married a mortal man, Sisyphus), Asterope (the storm Pleid), Maia (was seduced by Zeus-Jupiter and also gave birth to Hermes-Mercury Mercury is the son of Chandra-the Moon and Tara-the wife of Jupiter after Chandra stole Tara from the Moon causing a great war among the Gods.
Subramanya (a name of Mars) was born of the semen of Siva. He was breastfed by the Krittikas and then called Kartikeya (the General of the Celestial Armies). After the killing of Tarakasura, Subramanya became lustful. Parvati (his mother) showed him her image in all other women and he became so repentant that he would look upon all other women as equal to her and took on the vow of celibacy.
Subramanya also killed Mahirasura and was the commander in chief of the warriors. Amma has instituted the saying of the Mahirasura Stotra after the 1000 Names of Devi.
Arundhati is the wife of Sage Vasistha. She was so pure that she alone among the wives of the Rishis saw through a lustful illusion presented to them all and stayed true to her husband. Every newly married couple worshipped the Pleides as the 7 sisters, the wives of the Rishis.
Diana K. Rosenberg mentioned “Widowhood has been an issue in India since ancient times. For centuries the tradition of Sati expected or forced widows to throw themselves on their husband’s funeral pyre”. Sade Sati is the period when Saturn (Shani) is transiting through the 12th, 1st and 2nd Houses from the natal Moon. This is usually considered one of the most difficult periods in a person’s life as Saturn attempts to define the soul’s expression. As Saturn signicates death, the old expression dies out or is forcibly removed. ouse, the, 1st, and 2nd Houses from the Nastal MoonThe period when Amma’s biological parents (Damayanti and Sugunanandan) attempted to marry her coincides also with Amma’s entry into the 2nd Dhayya (1st House) of Her first Sade Sati from 6-17-68 to 7-23-75. The story of Sade Sati is also related to widowhood. This was also the advent of the period when Amma held Krishna Bhava and the one public miracle that Amma acknowledged. Amma did not choose to marry, thereby protecting the suitors from an early death.
These Sade Sati periods give additional emphasis to the premise of widowhood. The remedies are connected to feeding (Moon) the poor (Saturn), cooking of food (Krittika) and the fire in cooking (Krittika). We might also imply that the funeral pyre (Saturn as a significator of death) also relates to that fire. Again note that the concept of Widowhood comes up in the discussion of the Sun’s Nakshatra Hasta with its fixed star Vindemiatrix.
As Amma manifests her chart, there are major charities starting all the time. One is the Monthly Pension (Amrita Nidhi) instituted for more than 100,000 poor, desperate women and the physically and mentally challenged. The main beneficiaries are women who are either widowed or married to sick or handicapped men. Amma’s 2nd Sade Sati from 4-17-98 to 9-5-04 (especially the 2nd Dhayya) coincides with these programs that also include Elderly Care Home (Anbu Illam) and Housing for the Poor (Amrita Kuteeram) and Slum Improvement Program.
The first Sade Sati had to do with the futile attempts to marry Amma by her parents and the second Sade Sati coincides with the starting of programs that helped widows. The housing for the poor and elderly care seems to be a characteristic remedy for Saturn and especially for Sade Sati since free food was also provided.
The Sun
The Nakshatra of the Sun is Hasta at 10Virgo31 in the constellations of Virgo and Corvus.
Hasta
Hasta means the Hand (the open hand that gives blessings to humanity). The presiding deity of Hasta is Aditya (the Sun). Aditi, a daughter of Daksha Prajapati (one of the creator beings) is married to the Rishi Kasyapa and she has 12 sons, the Adityas-the twelve sovereign principles. One son is Aditya or Savitur, the Sun. The earth came into being out of chaos when Indra, the king of gods and the god of rain, separated the heaven from the earth. The Sun arose from the navel of the earth and separated the three worlds.
The deity is also referred to as Savitur (another name for the Sun) and is the form that imparts creative and transforming energy. Hasta signifies a strong mental nature producing creative intelligence- a function of Savitur. It manifests that which we are seeking. Amma grants the requests of Her devotees. Hasta promotes the practice of mediation and yoga. Dennis Harness also said that hardships, impediments and restraints occur early in life. Amma’s early life was filled with physical hardships as she had to clean other people’s houses, fetch water, and could not complete her education). She was punished by her parents when she would be singing songs to Krishna or be in an altered state of consciousness. As far as character, K. T. Shubhakaran mentioned that the female Hasta native “will not like to live as a slave” and “will not hesitate to express her views openly”. Partially because of this Amma was subjected to enmity from her relatives. She was told that her behavior was an embarrassment to the family. One relative even tried to kill her to stop her behavior.
Virgo and Corvus
Hasta contains the Fixed Stars of Vindemiatrix (the Widow maker, also associated with persecutions), Porrima (an atonement offering, the submissive one), and Auva (Apa or Apas-the waters) in Virgo and the stars Gienah and Minkar in the constellation of Corvus the Crow (Raven) and contains 5 stars that look like fingers of a hand. Other stars that have been linked to Hasta are Algorab, Alchiba and Kraz in Corvus the Crow and Zavijava (considered to be a producer of rain) and Zaniah a (negotiator of peace) in Virgo.
Diana K. Rosenberg has said that “There is a consistent connection between India and Vindemiatrix-also called Almuredin. …In addition to being the Star of Widowhood, she is also known as the Grape-gatherer, or the Vintager…She is also called Protrygeter- “the fruit plucking herald”. In Amma’s case, the gathering of grapes could refer to karmic fruits of her children.
Corvus the Crow, in legend, drives away demons (Asuras). This is another reference (see Krittika) to the defeat of the Mahirasura. Amma’s directs the singing of the Mahirasura Stotram following the 1000 Names of Devi.
Aditi represents the primordial vastness. Savitur vivifies and signifies magic weapons and the magic power of words. It is the procreative power of the sun. “The magic power of the word (Savitur) first took control of the mind thought. It seized the Agni and extracted it from the earth. With mind controlled we are inspired by the divine power of the word which leads to heaven and gives strength. Having controlled the powers that are conveyed through thought, the mind enters into the bright heavens. May the power of the word to inspire men, that great light may arise.” Savitur is the mysterious word, the mantra uttered by priests, that causes the sun to rise. It is the very sound from which the sun was created. According to Sayana in Rig Veda Bhasya, Savitur is the name given to the sun before it rises and it also applies to the setting sun.. Savitur is particularly connected to the 12 syllable verse, in the Rig Veda, known as the Gayatri mantra and is the most important of the Vedic mantras. “Tat savitur varenyam bhargo devasya dhimahi dhiyo yo nah prachodayat” translated as “Let us adore the supremacy of the divine sun, the godhead, who illuminates all, who recreates all, from whom all proceed, to whom all must return, whom we invoke to direct our understandings aright in our progress towards his holy seat”. The Guru mantra, which Amma gives, is the most powerful spiritual tool the devotee has. Amma had said that the Guru’s mantra is like the Sun and other mantras (such as planetary) are merely like orbiting planets. It is also said about the Sun that “Through his rays he puts life into food grains and living beings. He is the father to all. Savitur is known as the Nourisher or Procreator. Savitur is one of the seven divine Adityas or ministrant priests referred to in the Rig Veda (9.114.3).
The Lagna-The Ascendant
The Nakshatra of the Lagna at 23Libra33 is Visakha in the constellation of Libra. The Fixed Stars are both the scales of justice in Libra and the claws of the Scorpion.
Visakha
The deity is Indragni. Visakha belongs to the lowest caste. Indra, one part of Indragni, is known as the Bull, destroyer of 100 forts and is the universal prana or life. Agni is the god of fire. This Nakshatra is also called the forked or two branched. It suggests one who grows in influence and can produce great fruit. It has also been called Radha (devotees of Krishna can rest here) and the Star of Purpose with focused, concentrated power. Visakha is ruled by Jupiter, the great benefic and a third class star that gives out more light than it received from the Sun.
Visakha is a son of Subramanya. K.T. Shubhakaran goes on to say that the female “is extremely beautiful. This inherent godly gift of attractive physical features normally attracts the men folk and she has to face a lot of problems on this account”. Amma from early childhood attracted many young men as followers and it caused scandal in her village. She also hugged as part of her darshan and, this was taboo in the society. Shubhakaran also said “She is a firm believer of religious principles and quite often observe fast and perform pujas and visit holy places frequently”. Amma fasted many times for extremely long periods and was even fed by animals to sustain her body. Sherefuses to eat until her children have been fed. Amma installs temples in holy places and often installs women as the priests, (breaking more taboos and causing additional scandal. Amma has become increasing famous as “The Hugging Saint” and has achieved world wide recognition.
Libra
The stars are Zuben Elgenubi, Zuben Elakribi, and Zuben Elschesnali-was once considered the brightest of all and equal or greater in light to Antares. It was said that Zuben Elgenubi was “to push” as if one star was pushing away the other star. These stars act to hinder journeys and marriage. This was also called The Gateway.
Indra is called upon to destroy the Rakshasas (the demons). Indra is the wielder of the thunderbolt (the historic feature of Zeus-Jupiter). Indra is the son of Kasyapa and Aditi so the link with Hasta Nakshatra and the deity Savitur (a brother then of Indra). Indra also defeated and drove away the asuras. With Indra and Agni we have rain, fire and thunderstorms. Indra promised Brihaspati (Jupiter) that he would return Tara from Chandra the Moon. A dreadful war was about to occur when Brahma reconciled Indra and Chandra and returned Tara to Brihaspati. Reconciliation is well noted from the sign of Libra-which can become an excellent mediator. Indra battled Mahisasura. Indragni is the combination of Indra and Agni.
Jupiter
Jupiter is at 2Gemini43 in the Nakshatra of Mrigashirsha in the constellation of Orion. The Fixed Stars resemble the head of a deer or the eyes of a coconut.
Mrigashirsha
The presiding deity of this Nakshatra is the Moon. This Nakshatra indicates the beginning of the search. The ruling planet is Mars.
Orion
The stars are Meissa, and f ( 1) and ( 2) meaning that the head is imbedded in the heavens.
Tara, the wife of Jupiter, was seduced by the Moon to have experiences as Jupiter was so focused on the laws that he did not perform his family duty. Out of this union came the planet Mercury (see the Nakshatra of the Moon). Orion is Prajapati, the Creator Being. Prajapati is the Father of the Nakshatras (daughters). Prajapati pursued Rohini, the prior Nakshatra to Mrigashirsha, even though she was his own daughter. The Moon had become so attracted to Rohini that he did not visit his other wives. Prajapati changed his shape many times to become swifter and one of those shapes was an antelope giving Mrigashirsha its name. The chase ended when Shiva pierced Prajapati with an arrow and sent him crashing down to the earth. Writing and Persuasive speech come under the part of Mrigashirsha.
Ketu
Ketu, at 7Cancer52, is in the Nakshatra of Pushya in constellation of Cancer.
Pushya
The deity is Brihaspati, the Lord of Sacred Speech, and the Guru to the Devas. The ruling planet is Saturn. Pushya means to nourish or to thrive. It is known as Tishya meaning auspicious and Sidhya meaning prosperous.
Cancer
The three Fixed Stars in Pushya resemble a crescent and an arrow and are Asellus Borealis Asellus Austral and Praesaepe (the Beehive, the Manger, and the Crib). The Aselli were also known as the resting place or ending of a stop.
The wife of the Rishi Angiras, due to prior karma, gave birth to a dead child. Brahma advised her to practice the son-giving austerities. She then bore a son called the Great Master (Brishaspati), who is the presiding deity of mental powers and the teacher of the gods.. He is the teacher of the science of light (Astronomy and Astrology) and is the ruler of the Sun and the Moon. He controls the movement of the planets. Shiva made him the planet Jupiter. The Rig Veda says “Brihaspati when first born in the highest heaven of supreme lights, seven-mouthed, multiform, (combined) with sound, and seven-rayed, and has subdued the darkness.(4.50.4). Amma has given Sankalpas for birth of children demonstrating the knowledge of son-giving. As this author’s Jyotish Guru, she instructs on the movement of the planets and their meanings (with a 4th Grade education).
Venus
The Nakshatra of Venus at 10Leo25 is Magha. The Fixed Stars are in the constellation of Leo.
Magha
Magha means Mighty (as in House) or Generous and has 5 or 6 stars forming a rod or mighty house. It has been called the Sickle. It belongs to the Shudra or Servant caste. The Pitris, the Fathers, Spirits of Dead Ancestors- are considered the deities as this part of the sky marks their pathway. It relates to poison.
Leo
The stars are Regulus (it is brilliant and was called the Little King and is one of the Four Guardians of the Heavens with Fomalhaut, Aldebaran, and Antares. It is called the Lion’s Heart. With Mars, also in Leo, it can lead to honor, fame, a strong character and public prominence as a star of leadership,), Al Jabhah (loss and many dangers), Algieba , Ras Elased Australis (sometimes called Algenubi-it is called he who rends), and along with Ras Elased Borealis, can give an appreciation for language and a power of expression. They also are credited with conveying higher spiritual gifts to those that can receive them. Sometimes Alterf is included
Amma was poisoned, among assassination attempts in 1975. Most people born in this Nakshatra act in a traditional way and Amma has restored many of the traditional values and practices. The leadership qualities listed with Regulus certainly are characteristis of Amma and main stream media has provided public recognition. Amma has conveyed higher spiritual gifts and as one of the 108 Names of Amma states”Om-shisya-samkraamita-sviiya-projvalat-brahma-varcase-namaha -Adorations to Amma who has transmitted her divine brilliance to her disciples”.
Mars
The Nakshatra of Mars (Mangal, Karttikeya, Kuja) at 14Leo36 is Purva Phalguni, in the constellation of Leo.
Purva Phalguni
There are four Fixed Stars in this Nakshatra. The Nakshatras Purva and Uttara Phalguni resemble the legs of a cot or a bed. They are also considered the marriage mansions. Phalguni means fruit. Purva Phalguni is The Former Bad One and is also “The Lucky One”. The deity is Bhaga, the God of Good Fortune and Prosperity. The ruling planet is Venus. Bhaga is one of the primary Adityas born to Aditi. Bhaga is the inherited share. It stands for democratic institutions and represents elders who share in property as opposed to Daksha which is the technical ability of the young. The Rig Veda calls Bhaga the bestower. Bhaga is one of the eleven Rudras. Bhaga is said to be blind. Amma sees no difference between individuals great or small, rich or poor. She bestows her darshan on all alike. Bhaga’s wife is Realization-Siddh. The sons are Power –Vibhu, Sovereignty-Prabhu, and Greatness-Mahiman. The daughter is Hope-Ashis.
Leo
The Fixed Stars in Purva Phalguni are Zosma and Coxa (Uttara Phalguni also has two fixed stars. Both of these stars were considered to give the gift of prophecy. In Egypt they were called Mes-su-“the anointed one”. The word messiah comes from this word.
Mercury and Saturn
Mercury is at 25Virgo23 and Saturn at 3Libra45 in the Nakshatra of Chitra. The Fixed Star is Spica in Virgo.
Chitra
The presiding deity is Tvastar or Vishvakarma, the celestial architect of the universe. It is also called the Shaper or Artificer. This Nakshatra has a great spiritual depth and it enables us to get the fruits of our Punya (karmic credits). Mars is the ruling planet. It is also called the Shaper or Artificer. This Nakshatra has a great spiritual depth and it enables us to get the fruits of our Punya (karmic credits). Mars is the ruling planet. Chitra belongs to the serving caste and how appropriate to have Saturn the lowest caste-the servant to be in this Nakshatra.
Spica
Spica (a Star of eminence, renown and riches) is a pearl (a Moon’s stone) like star. It means brilliant and is also known as the Star of Prosperity. It is also the Star of Opportunity. Spica was often depicted as the Christ child in the lap of the Divine Mother Mary. Spica is also translated as “the jewel”.
Tvastar made the thunderbolt for Indra and the chalice for the Soma (another name of the Moon and the sacred drink referred to frequently in the Vedas). Tvastar signifies prosperity, regenerative power and longevity. Tvastar is also described much like Savitur. He is also one of the ancestors of the human race and is sometimes viewed as the lord of progeny. Many, of Amma’s children have been given the Sankalpa from Amma to have children (even when their horoscopes showed that they could not produce a child. As Vishvakarma, he is a duplicate of Prajapati (the creator being) and is sometimes linked to Savitur. He is the presiding deity of craftsmen. Nala, the king of the monkeys, who made the great bridge so that Rama could cross into Ceylon and rescue Sita was a partial incarnation. Amma is very instrumental in the preservation and restoration of marriage. Amma’s Saturn in Chitra is in the first house and its natural aspect is on the 7th house of Relationships.
Rahu
The Nakshatra of Rahu (7Capricorn52) is Uttara Ashadha, in the constellation of Sagittarius.
Uttara Ashadha
Uttara means latter and Ashadha means unsubdued. The deity is the Vishvadevas-the collective or universal gods, the universal principles. The brain cells like the stars in the skys are called vishvadevas so these gods control the brain cells.
Sagittarius
There are 4 stars in this Nakshatra. They are Kaus Medius, Kaus Borealis-promoters of idealistic and humane ideas of mental stimuli and a sense of justice, Facies-outlook and beliefs carried into practical effect, and Nunki or Pelagus-an authoritative orator.
Dharmadeva married the 10 daughters of Daksha. Visva, one of the daughters, gave birth to sons, the Vishvadevas. They are Vasu-the Dwelling Place, Satya-Truth, Kratu-Will, Intelligence, Sacrifice, Daksha-Ritual Skill, Kaala-Time, Kama-Lust, Dhrti-Forbearance, Kuru-Northern Ancestor, Puruu-ravas-Cry of Abundance, Maadrava-Cry of Joy, Dhvani-Fame, Dhuri-Leadership. Sometimes these are added Rocaka-Pleasantness or Locana-Sight, Dhvani-Fame, and Dhuri-Leadership. Amma’s inspiration and hard work has led to the founding of many charities that put into practice her teachings and the teachings of the sacred scriptures.
Abhijit
Technically, this position in Capricorn is also called Abhijit (usually used for Muhurta purposes) which extends from 6Capricorn40 to 10Capricorn54:13 and is in the constellation of Lyra. Veda Vyasa said that Abhijit Nakshatra once slipped down from the sky. This muhurta is the most suitable for auspicious work. The gods vanquished the asuras under this influence as one of its meanings is victorious. It is called the felicity of the sacrifice. The deity is Lord Brahma, the father of the celestial universe. It refers to the head, or Brahma bead of the mala and rosary which connects to Spica (see Mercury and Saturn) as well.
Lyra
Abhijit has three stars and appears as a triangle. Those stars are Vega, with the epsilon and zeta stars, in the constellation of Lyra. It is traveling towards the sphere of Vega at 12 miles per second.
With Rahu in Abhijit Nakshatra, the individual will be responsible for the several problems of the dear and near ones and the public. This fits the responsibility Amma takes on for all her children.
Gulika
The Chaya Graha (Shadow Planet) Gulika at 20Capricorn02, is based upon the Saturn portion of the day. Gulika, the son of Saturn, is based upon the Saturn portion of the day and is in in the Nakshatra of Shravana. It is in the constellation of Aquila the Eagle. Gulika is considered to be the most malevolent influence in a horoscope in South India. Gulika has the ability to destroy the house it is in and all planets with it and also greatly affect the House 7th from it. It destroys the ego or does not allow the ego to gain strength in these places.
Shravana
Shravana means hearing and it can also mean Crone. The deity is Lord Vishnu. . Shravana rules places of worship and service to humanity. It represents the three footsteps of Lord Vishnu.
Aquila
Shravana, has three stars Tarazed, Altair, and Alshain (combined looking like an ear. The stars signify a bold, confident and unyielding nature and help us to achieve manifestation.
Bali, King of the asura, had gained (thru penance etc…) dominion over the three worlds. To help the gods, Vishnu was born as a priestly dwarf (Vamana), son of Kasyapa and Aditi. The dwarf appeared before the virtuous Bali and asked for as much land as he could encompass with three steps. The boon was granted. With one step, the dwarf covered the earthly world, with another, the heavens and with the third put his foot on Bali’s head and pushed him down to the nether world. Bali had to acknowledge his defeat. In the House of the Home and Mother, this position acts to insure that the hearing and the vibrations of mantra are done for the benefit of all beings. Even Amma’s childhood home became a refuge for the spiritual seeker and eventually turned into an ashram as Amma has no earthly possessions.
Vimshottari Dashas Based upon the Moon’s Nakshatra
Sun Dasha from September 27, 1953 to July 18, 1955.
Amma was born with a smile on her face and did not cry. Amma started to walk and speak Malayalam at 6 months of age. The role of Savitur (deity of Hasta Nakshatra ruled by the Sun) to control the power of the word and the mind thought itself and Brihaspati (deity of Pushya Nakshatra ruled by Ketu) to control the movement of the planets and mental powers. The ruler of the Nakshatra is the Moon and Amma was born with a dark blue complexion reminiscent of Krishna, the incarnation of Vishnu from the Moon. She grew up with a dark complexion and was to some degree ostracized for this.
Moon Dasha July 18, 1955 to July 17, 1965.
Amma began her prayers and singing Bhajans to Krishna at the age of two. In the next year she chanted the Divine Names aloud. Amma entered school and was composing full fledged songs to Lord Krishna at age 5 and was considered brilliant with remarkable memory. At the age of 10, Amma was removed from school after completing only 4 years. She then was given full time domestic work at home and was sent to serve relatives for a three year period. Amma would carry water from town to their home. Amma would also steal butter, milk and curd and give these to starving families in the village. She would also give away items from the houses she worked (somewhat reminiscent of St. Francis of Assisi).
Mars Dasha July 17, 1965 to July 17, 1972
Amma was punished mercilessly by her mother (now a devotee) and subjected to ridicule for Her constant spiritual practices. At the age of 16, Amma took sewing classes. She vowed to only wear clothes that were discarded by others.
Rahu Dasha Jul 17, 1972 to July 17, 1990
At the age of 19, Amma’s parents unsuccessfully tried to arrange a marriage for Amma. She performed intense Sadhana during this period. At age 22 was the advent of Krishna Bhava, the one public miracle and many assassination attempts. Note the references to the Sade Sati period going on simultaneously listed under The Nakshatra of the Moon section. Other features were the merging with the Divine Mother and the advent of Devi Bhava at age 24, the suicide of her brother shortly before the 25th birthday, the forming of the ashram and Vedanta Vidyalaya school from 1979-1982 the beginning of the First World Tour in 1987, and the Ashram taking over a distressed orphanage from the government in 1989.
Jupiter Dasha July 17, 1990 to July 17, 2006
She built AIMS- a hospital for the poor, an engineering college, 25, 000 homes for the poor, an institute of advanced computing. She trained women to be priestesses, consecrated numerous temples, and addressed the United Nations on several occasions in several different venues (Mrigashirsha Nakshatra rules writing and persuasive speech). Large amounts of publicity given in the mass media. Amma sent devotees to three adopted villages in Gujarat after the earthquake there. Amma raised large sums of money for the Tsunami relief effort and many houses were built for the victims. She also raised $1,000,000 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All this charity with Jupiter’s Upayas (remedies) being charity. Jupiter’s rulership of the 6th House shows again how the Mahatma provides for the sick and injured (6th House significations). Also in 2003, at Amma’s 50th birthday celebration, 250,000 people from over 100 countries were brought together in Cochin, India.
Saturn Dasha July 17, 2006 to July 17, 2025
Much aid was provided by Amma’s organizations for the Haiti earthquake. Amma’s humanitarian efforts, Satsangs, and other activities have and continue to have a fairly loose format for participation. However, since the Saturn Dasha began, things have become much more organized and structured. The concept of being the servant to all has been her main teaching and the example she has set for her devotees.
With the exception of the Mars Dasha period between the ages of 12 and 19, Amma’s entire life has been under exalted Grahas or Grahas disposed by exalted Grahas.
Conclusion
Even in the ancient times, the Nakshatras and their stars stood out with a full meaning and direction for those who experienced it (the Rishis). They described both what they saw and what they felt. Their descriptions including their references to the Fixed Stars contained within the Nakshatras were the beginnings of Jyotish. The hymns they wrote in the Vedas give us additional knowledge and understanding both of the nature of these stars and what normally takes place in the Kali Yuga.
In the Satya Yuga all was studied so that we could merge with God as soon as possible as the only goal in life. In this Kali Yuga, only the Mahatmas provide the example of taking these characteristics and manifesting them in the highest possible way through their form. In the average human being we see some of the fabric of their karma. In a Mahatma, such as Amma, we see the perfected characteristic shining forth as an example of what these characteristics may truly be borne in the human soul.
May Amma and the readers please forgive any mistakes and omissions and I bow down to the Supreme Goddess and ask for Your Grace.
Lead us from untruth to truth, darkness to light, from death to immortality. Om, peace, peace, peace. May there be peace for the beings in this world and all other worlds. OM. Peace, peace, peace. May there be reverence for gurus. (ASATOMAA SADGAMAYA TAMASOMAA JYOTIRGAMAYA MRTYORMAA AMRTAMGAMAYA OM SHAANTHI SHAANTHI SHAANTHIHI.
