One can, if one is honest to oneself observe after spending 50-60 years in astrology that somewhere down the line we have missed the basics and our understanding of grahas, rasis and houses is grossly incomplete. This is not meant as an insult to our current senior astrologers or of yesteryears but as a plea that Jyotish is such an ocean that even basics are not learnt in several life times and the Grahas ‘keep on subtly modifying their own results’ which is hinted by Parasara Rishi in the first two chapters of BPHS. It is this writers humble submission that if he is able to understand 10 % of the basics of planets in this life, forget houses, signs, dasas and divisionals, he would have feel it is the greatest achievement for him. This is again a Mota Mota Technique (Broad Technique) and should be used diligently considering ‘other modifying factors’ which comes with experience and at the same time many of this modifying factors are still unknown to us all. Astrologers below 20 years of experience & sound knowledge of various classics are requested to be very careful using such broad thumb rules to predict.

Mangal (Mars) – says ‘The house where I am given shelter where I can, I repeat I can & not will (100 %) contribute to the following
- Marriage life of ‘One’ of the relative represented by that house will be spoilt or challenged or difficulty in getting married.
- Dowry taken or given by that relative or used as a tool to score points/revenge
- Some evil done in respect to money by that relative i.e. tax evaded or unethical means of money possession.
- Some aspect of that house will be hidden and possibility of it to come out in the open later
- That relative can also have sexual disfunctionality/abnormality/obsession.
- Chronic diseases or bad end to life.
He further says ‘Ofcourse all this will depend and heightened/modified if I am in my friend’s house or enemies house and if I am under influence (aspect) of enemies or krura (harsh) grahas or position in Vargas’.
We humbly request pardon & forgiveness if our(SA’s) interpretation of the above rules are incorrect, but what is important is to test it out and all are requested to test it and send us feedback only on charts whose complete life story they know and the chart owner has crossed 70-80 years of age. Sometimes a technique works on 20-25 charts and astrologers tend to believe & propagate it is a thumb rule even if the original author did not intend it to be so. This technique even if it works on 30 charts one must be careful and use it with maturity, as is the case with every BSP methods, the important point is not predicting with BSPs but to know that BSPs help in understanding what the grahas are doing in a chart. Every rule in jyotish has riders and is not clearly known to most of us and it is the case even with this rule is what is noticed by us. It is felt that the 3rd from this Mars is very decisive.
Our reading is limited and hence others might have mentioned it before us but we feel that this is the first time a clue on the graha for dowry has come out, a specific study is on right now on dowry cases which show direct relation of Mars in 12 cases and indirect relation of Mars. These findings will be presented in the coming issues.
Chart 1
Mars is placed in the 10H in sign Virgo, now 1oH is house of father or wife’s mother. The native is unmarried as he is only 26 so he was asked how is the married life of his uncles/relatives children since 6H is relatives & uncles and 5th from there would be the children of relatives and uncles. The chart holder instantly replied that their marriage life is in ruins. He said his uncles elder child is a girl who married out of the community (not accepted in India still inspite of our progress) and she married a drunkard who died at a very early age and had a terrible marriage life and later she married again and is happy.
Then the 2nd child of the uncle is a male who married again out of the community and became a drunkard and did all things which are not acceptable in decent society, he then divorced the woman and got killed at a very young age in a vehicular accident. You can additionally note that Mars is in the sign of Virgo which is the 6H of accidents and divorce and thus has also given the results more strongly apart from what the BSP rule implies. In conclusion as per the rule the marriage life of the relative denoted by the house should be spoilt and it is so in this chart.
One should note that this event could not have happened and hence the other relatives or relation of that house with respect to other relatives must be looked for e.g. in the above chart Mars is in 10H which is the 8H from the 3rd house of brothers, his elder brother is not getting married and tensions abound in his family due to this, why 8H since it shows the Soubhagya of marriage as per traditional astrology, which means in poor translation easy happiness out of marriage or easily gain of marriage, in this case there is difficulty in gain of marriage of the brother as translated for this chart.
Chart 2
The chart belongs to one of the most innocent souls we have ever met. This reading was done on the phone and the native was asked where his Mars is sitting and he said in the 12H so we asked him how is state of affairs of marriage life of his father’s siblings/brothers, he retorted instantly & with sharpness that it was in ruins. You can see that 10H and 9H both show father and 3rd from 10th shows the brothers of father. Later that evening we called him again and asked the full story he said his father’s brother has not seen his wife for 12 years, they live separate.
Chart 3
Mars is in the 9H of father placed in an enemy sign aspected by Saturn. He was asked if the marriage life of his father was in ruins and of that of his wife’s siblings/brothers. Native reported back that marriage life of his father was not smooth at all. 9H shows wife’s brother i.e. native’s brother in law and placement of Mars ‘in enemy sign aspected by Saturn’ shows his bro in law will not have good marriage. His bro in laws marriage was in ruins by the time native got engaged & he had already separated from his wife and was going through a legal divorce which is now completed, thus the Mars BSP 16 rule is working in this chart.
You can see 9H is the 3rd from the 7H of wife thus showing brother in law, one must note that the oft mistake committed so far by astrologers in our humble view is they take 3H for younger siblings and 11H for elder siblings which in our humble view should be 3H is ‘total/all’ siblings and when one has to fine tune it then you split up 3H for younger and 11H for elder, this was repeated in the last issue editorial of Vol 7 Dec 2009. In this case as correctly pointed out the case of marriage ruins was of elder brother as 9H shows all siblings of wife in general. One can also note at the start of this article that Mars says the house where he sits can show the relative doing “gadbad” (wrong things) in money or money through dowry. This Mars is in the 9H of wife’s brother and for the wedding ceremony he took several lakhs of money from his wife’s parents to spend on the ceremony without putting any money from his end for the ceremony, this indirectly means dowry and is a smart way adopted by today’s generation especially since dowry is a legal offence. After the divorce the elder brother had to pay back that money to the wife as per court orders thus proving the sayings of Lord Mars as stated at the start of the article. Lord Mars also says chronic diseases to the relative of that house, both the father and brother in law suffers from chronic diseases, father suffers from atleast 6 chronic diseases since 25 years and brother in law suffers from chronic back pain since many years inspite of leading a healthy life style.
Now in certain charts all the above need not be applicable for example there can be no brother to ones wife, then search for other relatives. Lets take the above chart where Mars is in the 9H it shows the marriage life of his brother, as it is the 7th from 3rd house of brother and shows the wife of his brother, their marriage life is not smooth and full of fights, thus exhibiting this rule of Lord Mars.
Chart 4
The chart belongs to a team member from North America, we asked her if ‘Do u have elder siblings or uncles that is fathers brothers, if so how is their marriage life (bad in ruins i mean)
Her reply: If you are talking about my dad’s brother he had a good marriage until the death of his wife when he was 89 years old. My older brother has been married 4 times and seems happy now….but the story isn’t over because he hasn’t died yet. ha ha. He does drink a lot and smoke a lot and he is 61 so who knows. My brother just gets bored with his wives and has affairs and moves to the next one. He usually has wonderful wives, very nice except for this last on that keeps us all away from him.
As you can see Mars is sitting in the house of elder brother and one relative’s marriage is spoilt.
Chart 5
Here Mars is placed in the 10H of father, so we asked the team member whose partners chart this as to ‘How was the married of his father, bad ?’
Her reply was ‘From what J…. tells me his mother was awful and took to her bed all the time and was mad at his dad all the time also.’
Chart 6
In the chart above Mars is in the 2H of family. The natives marriage is ok-ok with the husband becoming obedient to wife and does all chores of wife, the woman has indicated to husband that she married him for his money. The issue is as the above case of husbands becoming slaves of wife’s is common in 70% of households it cannot be termed as a failed marriage. So look at Mars in the 2H of family and native was asked in one’s own family was 2 peoples marriage spoilt, she replied her parents’ marriage was terrible (described history which cannot be printed here) and her elder brother’s marriage was divorced after 1 month of marriage. Note Mars is in Saturn’s sign.
Chart 7
4h shows ones mother and one’s own home life (also one’s own marriage life) and also many other things, this native is in her early teens. Mars is in the 4H of mother and this Mars is in the sign of enemy this be noted. Her mother married a man who already had a son from previous marriage due to not to be mentioned circumstances, would not like to comment on their marriage life and the girls home life is only filled with fights from morning to evening. They had 6 properties and now all is sold due to dwindling fortune and her mother’s step son has filed court case against them wanting all of whatever property is remaining.
Chart 8
Mars is placed in the 9H aspected by his enemy Saturn. 9H shows the legality of your marriage as it is the house of dharma and normally marriage done as per rites is a legal marriage in any society. Thus it shows ones marriage. Now if one does not know the nature of married life or chronic diseases of a relative of a chart holder, then one can see where this Mars is placed from Lagna, in this case it shows 9H of dharmic marriage or as per existing rules of one’s society. It has been the observation of scribe that 9H Mars also shows some trouble in marriage or it can even show the legal-ness of one’s marriage or if ones marriage is following the dharmic pattern of society. In the above chart the Mars is placed in the 9H of marriage and the natives own marriage has undergone trouble and the natives wife recently filed a case against him and his parents for domestic violence thus showing that the marriage has gone for a toss and exhibiting the rules of this BSP technique.
When using any traditional method one must always remember the either or principle, if one point is not spoilt then another would be and that is how the situation in the chart is to be judged before venturing out predictions, hence an astrologer at times of making fast predictions is forced to ask some queries and then he arrives at the conclusion. At the same time when it comes to marriage area never should one work on the marriages of Indians or their relatives since being a conservative society the whole truth of their marriage is never revealed unless the full story is too evident to be hidden from society.
A broad and general thing observed by us is at times, pls note at times Mars in the 9H can give a live in relationship or not so ideal marriage, it’s still a slight deviation from the above rule.
Chart 9
Mars is placed in debilitation in the 11H which is 3rd from the 9th house of father. The native’s fathers 4 brothers and sisters were unmarried inspite of great wealth and education and 1 of them suffered from mental problems right from early age (chronic disease given in BSP 16 rule) and another suffers from rheumatism and other various diseases. From the above it is evident that the siblings of his fathers have had ruined marriage areas. As the Mars is in debilitation in the 11H of wife in the case of the native itself (BPHS Chapter 12 Shloka 12) this native was asked how his own marriage life is, he had a pitiful look on his face and said there are certain areas of life which if one images does not exist then one’s life becomes easy so why even speak about it thereby giving it existence.
For long we have posted on our website and on forums for cases of dowry which is a menace to India and so many suffer due to it, one takes or gives dowry in one lifetime and in the next he is made to suffer due to karma cycle, this goes on and on. The astrologers & spiritualists who are responsible for cleaning up of karma of a society have failed here in India & that is a unwritten truth as dowry is still existent in India displaying our pseudo spirituality and religiousness. After writing the above article we searched in our database for dowry cases and found only 15 charts. Two are presented below.

One can note that Mars is in the 9H it shows the marriage life of one brothers and sisters as it is the 7th from the 3rd house and obviously it shows the spouse of one’s siblings. As per the Bhrighu Saral Paddathi (Bhrighu Easy Methodology) rule of BSP 16 b) which was pointed out at the start of the article it indicates dowry taken or given by the relative indicated by that house. Here Mars is in the 9H of sister’s husband and as per the mail posted in Jyotish Remedies he has taken dowry.
What is of prime importance here for astrologers is this is not the ‘Only’ way to see dowry but maybe it could be ‘one’ of the ways, as one must not forget that grahas are extremely creative.

Mars is in the 7H debilitated & with Saturn, 7H shows wife of the native. This chart was provided by one of the volunteers Mrs Kundan Desai of Mumbai and she wrote on this chart….

Let us see where Mars is in the above chart holders wife. Does that Mars indicates fights, harassment, is it in a house that indicates fights due to marriage. Pls see chart below
You can see that Mars is in the 6H of fights, disputes, and divorces and also in the sign of Virgo the natural 6H. The lady has suffered due to dowry as Mars is in the 6H, thus showing the rule of BSP 16 b of Mars having relation to dowry. It is not prudent and would be insensitive to comment here as to why this lady is born with Mars in the 6H but readers are requested to see the Vol 7 Editorial which had revealed the pending karma technique and use it in the above chart to probably see Gods play.
Regarding dowry problems in charts of male or female a specific research is to be carried out and if readers can send in charts to admin@saptarishisastrology.com regarding dowry where true incident is known and not cases where someone is trying to punish someone and falsely implicating dowry cases.
