Jamakkol Arudam
After a great observation the ancient sages, rishis , saints & siddhars found that there exists a definite relationship between mundane affairs and all the planets that going around the Sun via 27 Nakshatras & 12 Rasis/Signs and they also enumerated rules how to predict the past. present and future.
In the remote ancient ages, before the development of astrology, the ancient men used to predict with the signs that are projected by the nature-Nimmitas. For example, if a person is travelling in a direction the signs they observe in that direction will be used for predicting the fortune.
Gradually humans started using 8 directions. Thus the Jamakkol arudam has its own origin. Many great persons worked for this method but somehow we are unable to know their names & history because we have no lwo any evidence for that. However a Jain Saint Upendra Chariyar had written 2 books in the remote past, Hence he is considered as the Father of Jamakkol Arudam. From the masterly way he had treated the subject, we can presume that before him itself the subject had fully grown and evolved. A subject like this takes many centuries to grow. Jaina Saint Upendra Chariyar had written Gnanapratipika in Sanskrit and Jinendra Malai in Tamil. lnttially Gnana pratipika was translated to English initialty followed by a Tamil translation. J inendra Malai was written by Upendra Chariyar himself in Tamil and it is not a translation.
