Conditional Dasa:

Among the many Phalita Dasas deduced from Jaimini Sutras I prefer Tara Dasa for timing of childbirth in female charts, preferably under the following conditions. Tara Lagna should be occupied or aspected by a planet who is exalted, debilitated or aspected by its sign-dispositor.

Tara Lagna:

Convert the elapsed Vimshottari Dasa years at the time of birth into months. Divide this number by the Vimshottari year constant (Sun = 6, Moon = 10, Mars = 7, Rahu = 18, Jupiter = 16, Saturn = 19, Mercury = 17, Ketu = 7, Venus = 20).

The quotient plus 1 when counted from the Ascendant is the Tara Lagna.

Reckoning of Tara Dasa

Tara Dasa from Tara Lagna. The order of the Dasa-signs from Tara Lagna is direct, if the Tara Lagna is an odd sign. Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius are the six odd signs. The order of Dasa signs is reverse if Tara Lagna is an even sign. Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces are the six even signs. Each Dasa-sign commencing from Tara Lagna gets 9 years and each Bhukti sign from the corresponding Dasa-sign gets 9 months.

Bhukti signs in Tara Dasa:

1. The Bhukti signs of the corresponding Dasa-sign run direct if the Atmakaraka or Saturn is placed in the odd sign of Oja Pada group.
2. The Bhukti signs of the corresponding Dasa-sign run reverse if the Atmakaraka or Saturn is placed in the even sign of Oja Pada group.
3. The Bhukti signs of the corresponding Dasa-sign run direct if the Atmakaraka or Saturn is placed in the even sign of the Sama Pada group.
4. The Bhukti signs of the corresponding Dasa-sign run reverse if the Atmakaraka or Saturn is placed in the odd sign of the Sama Pada group.

Oja pada group – Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius.

Sama Pada group – Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.

Chart 1: Female: Born April 25, 1969 at 21h. 40m.

Ascendant-Scorpio; Atmakaraka-Mercury; Putrakaraka-Sun

Dasa elapsed at birth is of Mercury   = 6 years

= 72 months.

72 when divided by Mercury dasa year constant 17 gives a quotient of 4.

72/17 = 4 (quotient) + 4 (remainder)

The quotient is 4.

4 + 1 = 5

Counting backwards from Scorpio, an even sign, we get Pisces as Tara Lagna. So Pisces as Tara Lagna is occupied by exalted Venus conjunct Rahu.

Tara Dasa, therefore, begins from Pisces and the Dasa-signs run reverse, Pisces being an even sign. The Dasa=signs are Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio etc. Each Dasa is of 9 years.

25 + 1969 + 9 (Pisces) + 9 (Aquarius) + 9 (Capricorn) + 9 (Sagittarius) = 36 years.

Sagittarius Dasa begins from 25-4-1996. In Sagittarius-Pisces, the native gave birth to a daughter on 14-2-1998. The Bhukti signs run direct because Mercury, the Atmakaraka, is placed in the odd sign of Oja Pada group. Incidentally Saturn is also placed in Aries. From Sagittarius, the 5th (Aries) is occupied by the exalted Sun associated with the Anapatya* planets Mercury and Saturn. The Bhukti sign Pisces is occupied by Rahu and exalted Venus (the female planet).

Sun, Rahu, Jupiter are the Apatya planets: Saturn, Mercury, Ketu are the Anapatya planets. Venus and Moon are female planets. Lone Moon gives son also. If both Apatya and Anapatya conjoin progeny is delayed.

Chart 2: Female: Born on January 7, 1979 at 14H. 47m.

Ascendant-Taurus; Atmakaraka-Mars; Putrakaraka-Jupiter

Elapsed Venus Dasa       = 4 years 4 months

= 52 months

52/20 = 2 + 12

20 is Venus Dasa year constant.

The quotient is 2

2 + 1 = 3

So the 3rd sign from the Ascendant Taurus which is Cancer becomes Tara Lagna occupied by exalted Jupiter. Tara Dasa begins from Cancer and the Dasa-signs are reversely Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries etc. Since the Atmakaraka Mars is placed in the odd sign of Oja Pada group the Bhukti signs of Taurus follow direct from Gemini.

The Bhukti signs each get 9 months from Gemini. Pisces Bhukti sign is from 7-10-2003 to 7-7-2004. The native gave birth to a daughter on 11-2-2004 in Pisces Bhukti. Pisces is an even sign and its 5th is occupied by Jupiter, an even sign, aspected by the female Venus.

Chart 3: Female: Born November 4, 1957 at 19h. 17m.

Ascendant-Taurus; Atmakaraka-Mercury; Putrakaraka-Moon

Elapsed Dasa of Saturn = 16 years 1 month

= 193 months

193/19 = 10 + 3

19 is Saturn Dasa year constant.

The quotient is 10.

10 + 1 = 11

Therefore, the 11th sign from the Ascendant Taurus is Pisces which becomes Tara Lagna. It is occupied by the Moon. So the Tara Dasa begins from Pisces and the Dasa-signs are Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio etc., each of 9 years.

4-11-1957 + 9 (Pisces) + 9 (Aquarius) + 9 (Capricorn) etc.

Capricorn Dasa begins from 4-11-1975. Since the Atmakaraka mercury is placed in Libra, an odd sign, of the Oja Pada group, the Bhukti signs of Capricorn run direct from Aquarius each of 9 months. The native gave birth to a son on 27-5-1982 in Aquarius-Libra (04-11-1981 to 04-07-1982). The 9th house from Capricorn is Virgo occupied by Jupiter aspected by Moon from Pisces. The Bhukti sign Libra is occupied by Rahu, Mercury, Mars and debilitated Sun.
