In modern times, foreign travel is considered as a class of Rajayoga. Some leave their land and become permanent residents of foreign country. Some go abroad in quest of job, business or education and return to the native land. In either case, they would be sure off better prospects in life. Apropos, one goes abroad is deemed to have been enjoying Bhagya, Rajayogas, etc. either in the foreign country or in native land. Many in our country feel that foreign travel has become a major qualification for budding bridegrooms. And “Pravesha Bharateeya” has become a respectable term. Hence, the inquiries of the yogas leading to foreign travel are commonly asked of astrologers.
But if we peep into the ancient times, the picture looks quite different. Foreign travel was considered as heinous and wearisome. It was perforce due to a wretched background of life. The return of anybody to the native land who had been abroad was rarely hoped. Even if one were to return by chance, disdain and disrespect from society were the consequential returns to such a one.
Hence, people were not inclined to go abroad of their own accord. It would be due to banishment or excommunication. It could be due to one’s own poverty, dejection, despair, or due to an inability to bear with the insult and humiliation from the society or one’s own kith and kin. One who sojourned in the foreign country was called a pravasee used in the sense of contempt and humiliation, since the pravasee was thought to be the cause of grief, distress, disrespect of his kith and kin, while in the present times he is the source of good fortune and prosperity to his family. Yogas for videsa yana are termed as Pravesa Yogas also and these are dealt in our classical texts of Astrology keeping in view the prevailing background of predicament then without any reference or connection of any class of Rajayoga. Hence, it is for us now to prudently alienate those rules for foreign travel preferably in the presence of Rajayoga in the horoscope.
Rules for Foreign Travel:
- Lagna lord in the 12th house while Mars, Moon and a malefic are in the 10th house – the native is distressed, unhappy and poverty-stricken and goes to a foreign country.
