The great Acharya Shri Krishna composed this Grantham 11th century AD. Thereafter the book gained unequalled admiration and was quoted in later compositions like Prashnamarg and Rudra's commentary on Vrhad Jataka. The Malayalam literary composition like anniyaccicaritam carries citation from this great grantha. The earliest mutation can be cited from Shri Govinda Bhattathiri of tallakulam (a.d. 1237-95) who quoted it frequently. Shri Vishnu the son of Madhav Acharya has written the Sanskrit commentary caturasundar, which is included in this work. Sriyut Puliyur Purusottam nambudiri wrote the Malayalam commentary,
The current English translation is explained through three different editions of Krishneeyam. The commentary and translation is done from caturasundari slokas and another Sanskrit manuscript from North of India.
